Can I become a Catholic and still be Protestant?

I’m 16 years old and I want to convert to Catholicism, but I’m a member of a Protestant church and have been Protestant all my life. Like I said I want to convert to Catholicism and still go to my Protestant church because of my mom and brother. I do acknowledge that there is no other church besides the Catholic Church and that’s why I want to join. Can someone help me? Can I join the Catholic Church and still go to church with my family? I have a Catholic church that I can regularly attend on Saturday and then go to church with my family on Sunday.

A person cannot become Catholic while still remaining a member of another church. To become Catholic means to give of yourself wholeheartedly to the Church you understand to be Christ’s own. What you can do, is to visit another church on occasion as a guest. You would not be there as a member but as a visitor.

I recommend talking with your mom and explaining to her your desire to become Catholic. Together, the two of you can approach a local Catholic priest and he can advise you further.
