Okay i know i start alot of threads but never really finish them, they just get really lond and responding to everything is really hard. My faith is still undefined.

But say the catholic church is 100% right.

Ever since I was 13 or so, reading discworld I’ve always wanted to become a reaper. Then came Abbadon, dead like me and now Reaper.

So is it possible? Who do i make a deal with to become a reaper? And what exactly does a reaper do?

Are thier any reapers I can communicate with? Do you get any perks or is it really a ****** job? unpaid and unappreciated?

I would love to learn more.

Lol, if i asked the devil you think he’s in charge of reaping…

No such thing, St Michael the Archangel is the good angel of death.

God alone decides who lives and dies, you don’t get to ‘‘make deals’’, you have nothing to offer God that He doesn’t already possess.

Don’t try and pursue supernatural goals, its not healthy mentally or spiritually.

God Bless

Peter

A reaper is a real job for living people too. It is just another word for someone who helps to harvest grain (cut the stalks of grain and gather it in when it is ripe). All done by machine these days.

A secondary poetic meaning, of course, is that of the Angel (angels) of Death who escort the souls of the dead. I don’t think the Angel of Death, aka the Grim Reaper, is the devil or an evil angel - death isn’t a bad or evil thing per se. But it ain’t healthy for a living person to want to be this sort of Reaper!

If you want to be the other sort of reaper, on the other hand, I don’t think it’s a specialised job on its own any more, it’d just be farmhands operating the machinery.

Of course, actually Lily is right. Here is the exact method for becoming a reaper:

Step one-get a scythe or harvester depending on your funds

Step two-find a field with crops ready for harvest

Step three-reap!

I’m not quite sure where you are getting this information from but you might want to be a bit careful because you are walking a very fine line.

I’m assuming you are fairly young judging by your post.

I think there is something in our culture that tries to glorify this type of thing. A supernatural person with special powers that has dominion over death. This is something out of an anime or a hollywood movie, not something that is actually real. There is only One who has dominion over the living and the dead and none of us will are able to take that power.

All we can do for those who have died is pray for them and their families. People who die are that much closer to heaven, all that need is our prayers. They do not wander the earth in search of anything but rather return home.

If you want to be part of this world there is something you can do. It is by no means as fake or glamourous as what a “reaper” is portrayed as, but is much more important and much more difficult. You can be there for people who are alive and in pain. The dead have seen the end to many things and are on their way to eternal happiness while the living still have much suffering.

If you want to do something important and worth while become a giver of life and hope. There are always more people in this world who need help then there will be people willing to help them.

😃 Nice. I’ve actually used a scythe (to cut grass, not crops)-- it’s back-breaking work.

Did someone leave the door to the kindergarten open again!?

Abb, the fingerpaints are over there. Please remember to adjust your smock so you keep your shirt clean, or your Mom is not gonna be happy and your sister’s gonna get the best part of the candybar again!

Oh i have no idea how any of it really works. I made an inccorect assumption in assuming that the myth of angels of death or grim reapers came from christianity. Clearly i was wrong… Well I’m off to search where it came from…

There is an Angel of Death, the position is filled. Since Angels do not die, or retire, the position will always be filled. Even if that were possible, a human can’t become an angel, nomatter what deals tey make.

The ‘‘grim reaper’’ is a product of modern media, mixing some elements of Slavic paganism with some elements of Western pagan mysticism (i.e. witchcraft) and giving it some Judeo-Christian flavouring to make it sit better with the audience.

EDIT: In my first post I said Michael is the angel of Death, I stand corrected, it is Gabriel.

God Bless

be careful. be very careful. DH used to work for a landscaper to pay his way through school, and they used sicles (curved blade with a short handle) and scythes (long straight blade on a long handle) to trim weeds and bushes. He stuck the handle of the sicle in his back pocket to pick something up, and when he reached back to get it, sliced open his arm, including the artery. fortunately he was not working along and somebody knew what to do while the got him to the ER, but he still has that huge ugly scar 40years later.

I must be dense or something. What exactly is this Reaper the OP is talking about? Is this some New Age or Occult thing? Please explain.

The ‘‘grim reaper’’ from all those cartoons and movies. The guy in black robes and a scythe who ‘‘harvests’’ (reaps) souls. All utter nonsense. Abaddon thought it was a Catholic concept.

OK. Thanks. Why would anyone want to be THAT?

Okay I really think the OP is pulling our leg. Nobody actually thinks that is real. I mean a man dressed in a black robe harvesting souls!?!?! And then someone who wants to apply for the job. It is kind of funny though. I think the OP is just having a good laugh at his post. 🙂

Yes, but I can’t help but get a kick out of the Reaper in that Bill and Ted’s bogus journey movie (I can’t remember the name). You know, the one where they go back in time and get Socrates and Napoleon and what not? Somehow they end up with the Grim Reaper, and he turns out to be cool. The Reaper sees a guy in the store lighting up a cigarette and remarks, “I’ll be seeing *you *very soon”.

Stupid, but funny. 😃

I think the OP might be getting his or her ideas from the television show “Reaper” on the CW, about some kid whose parents sold his soul to the Devil when he was very young. The Devil then gives this teenager a job, capturing souls that have “somehow” escaped from Hell. The show is somehow connected to Kevin Smith of “Dogma” fame. The show is kinda funny, but, as we see by the OP, can also give people the wrong ideas.

I thought Uriel was the Angel of Death, at least in the Jewish tradition and in 1 Enoch? I don’t think we have an angel of death officially, but I know at least one Eastern Orthodox church accepts 1 Enoch as part of their cannon, so I think the only answer I can come up with is that Uriel seems to be the likely candidate outside of catholicism…

and I thought Michael was the head of God’s armies and Gabriel the Messanger boy and… all I remember Raphael doing is scaring Asmodeus away with stinky fish guts…

This is a very worrisome thing when our youth get their worldviews and theologies from television instead of people who really care about them. I’m concerned.

Abbadon,

Read more, and not just the dime-novel trash and comic books, but good stuff to get an idea of what the world is about.

Television is a twisted, perverted fantasy world. It will make you into a virtual moron if you’re not careful. In the old days, censors held television and movies to a moral and intellecual standard, realizing its power to lead those in formation astray. These days, anything goes. Nearly nothing on that boob tube is close to accurate. The internet is not much better.

And, for that matter, most bookstores and libraries are full of garbage just as much. Demand nothing but the best, you’re worth nothing less. Study history from the sources. Avoid propaganda. You want to find the best quality in everything you read or see. Don’t settle for junk. Hint: Jesus and His Church is the best bet, though you will doubtless run off the path into all kinds of dead ends. I will pray for you.

Where are parents thesedays? Lord, help us. 😦

Errrr how about a talking snake and a jewish zombie? And a ceremony where you symbolically eat it’s body and drink it’s wine…

If you look at any relegion from the outside it’s all wierd
