I have felt remorse for having my tubes tied since the moment it was done. I did it because my husband didn’t want anymore children. Will I have to have it reversed, because I can’t afford the operation.

Thank you so much for the reply, I am relieved that I don’t have it reversed to become Catholic. I just wish I had know at the time how much pain and heart ache it would cause. The inability to have children has left a huge hole in my heart.

That is indeed a difficult thing to go through, with the pressure from your husband and all,
and someone who i am very very close to has gone through something very similar, she got her tubes tied from being pressured not just by her husband, but also her in-laws, and it tormented her conscience for i think about 20 years or so, because she tried asking many priests “was this a mortal sin?” and trying to find out what to do, and she could never get a straight yes or no answer, until finally, about 2 or 3 years ago, she found a good priest from the priestly fraternity of saint peter, and he was able to give her a straight answer, that yes it was a mortal sin, and so she confessed it, and was absolved, and she’s just been alot better since then.
so, yes you can become a catholic no problem, and since there is nothing you can do about it for lack of money, i would just recommend talking to your priest about it.

Thank you so much for that. I pray nightly that God will grant me peace and help me come to terms with it, I also pray for a miracle that I will conceive despite the fact that my tubes are tied. I just don’t feel like our family is complete yet, and that by doing this I have interfered with Gods plan for my life. God willing I will be able to get this reversed and add to our family. If not I pray that I will find peace through confession like your friend did.

As you now know, having your tubes tied was a sin (though you might not have known it at the time). When you have your first Confession, you should confess it.
BUT, the sin is in the past (even though its consequences are still present). It is no impediment to your becoming a Catholic. You don’t need to ‘undo’ the sin, especially if it’s beyond your means. God does not expect the impossible of us!
As an example: Imagine that I shot somebody in the leg ten years ago…not in self defense, but as an unjustified assault on that person. They had to have the leg amputated. I later realized that what I had done was wrong, and when coming into the Church I confessed it in the Sacrament and received absolution and performed my assigned penance. My entrance into the church would not be contingent upon somehow recovering the victim’s leg! It would be contingent on my confessing the sin and receiving absolution, even though the consequences of that sin still linger in some ways.
Obviously I’m not saying that having your tubes tied was like shooting somebody in the leg. That’s not what I’m trying to say. I’m simply saying that what’s done is done. The Catholic faith isn’t about what you’ve done, because after you’ve received absolution that’s gone. The sins are forgiven! The Catholic faith is more about what you do from now on.
