I get off work at 7am and would love to just walk to daily Mass right from work. However, I would need to bring a backpack with me into the Church since it would have my work uniform in it. Do you think this is okay? I wouldn’t make it to the Church if I walked home first to drop of my uniform. But I’ve never seen anyone bring a bag into the Church.

My apologies if this a dumb question, lol.

I did all the time. I rode the bus and that is what I carried around instead of a purse. So yes, a backpack is fine. 👍

Yay, thanks so much for the really quick reply guys! Totally doing this tomorrow morning. 🙂

Just pop into a daily Mass on a college campus. MOST of the attendees will have backpacks… SO awesome that you can fit it into your day! 🙂

Of course you can. I’ll bring mine up for Communion as well because I have my laptop in it.

You can bring your entire luggage as long as you get yourself to mass. If you come to our chapel, you’ll just have to do what they do on airlines, shove it under the chair in front of you, because we are very limited on space. Our chapel is 9 x 10. By the way, we don’t have overhead compartments. That’s the bad news. The good news, we don’t charge for your baggage. 😃

I have brought shopping bags as well. I just keep them out of the way!

I believe that God invites us to bring all our “baggage” with us when we come before Him
! You can count on Him to lighten your load

^^ I love that post!

I didn’t feel as conspicuous as I thought with my bag but there was only six people there so that could be why (I was surprised there was so little). Anyway, it went great!

I think this is absolutely no problem. I do it very often when I go direct from work to Mass in the evenings, and it’s never gotten me into any trouble so far.

I suppose the real issues would be space - a large or heavy suitcase or bag would take up space and could disturb or distract others - but that would be an exceptional case.

As long as it’s not in anyone’s way it’s fine. I regularly take a shopping trolley to Mass (a bag on wheels) as I can’t carry a lot. I just make sure it’s not in anyone’s way. We have a homeless guy who comes regularly to weekday Masses, he has his whole life in a suitcase on wheels and a backpack! Again he puts them where they won’t get in the way.

God bless.

It’s not what we bring into Church that is an issue. It’s where our focus is while we at Mass. Nobody thinks anything when a woman brings a purse to Church. Why worry about a backpack? As others have mentioned, I also may go shopping before Mass. Without a vehicle, I keep my items with me, stowing them under the pew in front of me.

Of course you can…better to go to Mass than not. Even in the old days…workmen coming off shift and in their dirt were perfectly acceptable to go to Mass, I am sure an attempt would have been made to clean up as best as was able.

I certainly have gone to Mass at the end of night shift in uniform and struggled not to fall asleep in the pew…God is a loving God and knows our weakness!👍

After all isn’t it ordained by God that man labours…

When I was a student-friar I had a superior who is now deceased, a very holy friar. He always took his cat to mass. I think it’s OK to bring a backpack.

I see nothing wrong with bringing you backpack to Church,if your getting out of work. Their were times I would bring my cart to mass,so I could go to the store after Mass, but the best thing, is to leave it in the back, of the Church, so that people don,t trip over it or take up space in the pew area, the ushers, will make sure no one takes it. 👍

Just remember, just because some churches look like spaceships, they don’t have overhead compartments. 😃

Whatever you bring, has to fit somewhere out of the way. If the Fire Marshal walks in, the pastor is going to have a problem if the aisles are blocked.

I think like Brother said, as long as the bag isn’t so big it will obstruct aisles, I don’t see why it would be an issue. I used to bring a bag with me to carry my Liturgy of the Hours etc., as the local nuns said the Breviary before morning mass and I liked to join them, and in fact several times I went to church after school with my backpack still attached. Nobody got angry with me for it because I kept it under the seat 🙂
