Then we wouldn’t need a Church would we? Just “do our own thing” as to many are doing anyway. And look where that’s leading us in our society today. Not a road I want to go down. God Bless, Memaw
No, it’s not so serious as that. Each of us has his own relationship with God. There’s nothing wrong with praying in whatever way is best for us in private prayer. It’s only in public prayer that there are rubrics to be followed. Even in monasteries the brothers/sisters have personal prayer times in which they pray however they wish. We are talking about having a conversation with God, our beloved, our friend. We can talk to him in any way we wish. 🙂

As for falling asleep while praying, St. Therese of Lisieux used to fall asleep during communities prayers and wrote that being that she was God’s little child he didn’t mind if she fell asleep in his arms just like any other baby who feels secure being held by her father. Lovely image, isn’t it?

Yes it is. My mother used to say that my guardian angel finished my rosary for me while I slept. No doubt she said that so I wouldn’t be anxious about these things that happen naturally and not due to lack of devotion. :hug3:

Note that I said MORE areas, not ALL. Do we really need rules telling us how to say the rosary, or what prayers we must say every morning? Some things shouldn’t be regulated. Just my opinion.

I pray the rosary 3 times a day

Is it OK some times I drink a cup of tea between a decade while doing the rosary?

Where can I find dons and dont’s when doing rosary?

Thanks
Its a private devotion. You can pray it however you want and have breaks whenever you want.

I absolutely agree with everything written here thus far. But it should be noted, in the case of praying the Rosary for the sake of an indulgence, that it must be prayed in an uninterrupted manner. Obviously, the spirit of the law here should be worked out without some sort of scrupulous legalism, but here is the pertinent quote:
Regarding the plenary indulgence for the recitation of the Marian rosary, the following is prescribed:

  1. *]The recitation of a third part of the rosary is sufficient, but the five decades must be recited without interruption.
*]Devout meditation on the mysteries is to be added to the vocal prayer.
*]In its public recitation the mysteries must be announced in accord with approved local custom, but in its private recitation it is but in its private recitation it is sufficient for the faithful simply to join meditation on the mysteries to the vocal prayer.

  1. United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) (2012-04-11). Manual of Indulgences (Kindle Locations 974-979). United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Kindle Edition.
Therefore if I were, say, praying the Rosary with my family for a plenary indulgence, I’d try not to drink the tea between mysteries. But on my own, I’d feel quite comfortable doing it.

… and, if you’re praying three sets of mysteries, you may need the extra pinch of caffeine, hm? 😛

Many people have recorded versions of the rosary which they pray along with while driving. biking, walking, …
As someone else said in another thread, *I am a better driver while praying the rosary. I do not use beads. I am calmer, more charitable. HOWEVER I do not close my eyes like I sometimes do when praying… that could be very dangerous… *

:rotfl: Yeah, that might not be such a great idea. 😛

You should fast (no food) 12 hours prior praying the rosary and 12 hours after praying the rosary. You should pray the rosary every day!:D:D

They are not rules, they are devotions. We need guidance and shouldn’t brush it off as a burden. Without it we drift off into our own “land”. It’s not a “must” it’s a choice!! God Bless, Memaw

As others have said there’s nothing wrong. I love to sing, despite knowing that if people heard me they would cringe. However, that doesn’t stop me from singing, and I frequently stop after a psalm or hymn and go get a drink from my kitchen.
While praying in the Church in an official ceremony, like a mass or the LOTH, drinking is not forbidden. My parish used to have an elder priest who would sometimes drink water after saying the homily. However, I do believe that only water may be drunk in these official celebrations, and only out of necessity.
