After school I go to my local Church after school to pray, and meditate (My school thankfully ends at 2:45, so i can make it there before 3:00 to meditate on the passion) But I was just wondering, can I enter the Church dressed in this type of uniform:

Pants are like this–>>losangelespublicrelations.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/dockers.jpg

Shirts look like this–>>lynelbys.co.uk/images/bsap%20navy%20blue%20polo%201.jpg

And I am allowed to wear sneakers.
I was just wondering, Can I see my Lord dressed (Excluding Saturday, and Sunday Mass) in this?

Dang, that uniform is nicer than what a lot of people wear to my Church on Sunday morning.

I say go for it. The Church is a house of God, not a fashion show. If someone is offended that a student comes to Church in his school uniform, that is their problem.

Remember, if God cared about our clothes, he wouldn’t have created us naked 😃

God bless

If half the people who go to church dressed so, it would really be nice. There is nothing wrong with your examples. They are very modest and quite appropriate! And there is nothing wrong with sneakers. I remember when men would come in from working at the rubber factory and be dressed in their work uniforms and work shoes. What if you were the church gardener or janitor and came to mass in your overalls.

The children and teenagers in our parish school attend Mass wearing their uniforms and most of them wear sneakers.

I would question where you got the idea that this kind of clothing is inappropriate for worshipping the Lord.

You know, typically I answer questions like the title of this thread, “can I…?” with an automatic (and slightly jaded) “no” in my head before answering the question online…but YES, yes you can. Double-plus yes. Slacks and a polo shirt are appropriate and respectful.

It’s similar to how I dress for Mass, when I’m not wearing a proper suit jacket. A nice polo shirt and pants makes for a good and well-dressed appearance that is dignified and respectable.

As for your sneakers, they probably are not an issue, but I suggest that they be dark and clean and don’t stand out by much. A ratty pair of tennis shoes or obnoxiously-colored sneakers isn’t considered fit for a first date or for seeing someone important, so for the Lord Himself they should be thought of as contemptible - but I think you’ve got better ones in mind 😉

A good rule to go by is to just consider how you’d dress if you were meeting someone important or special - and then remember the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament who is present.

So no, I don’t see an issue with your clothes. They are nice and I think, appropriate. God bless 🙂

This is better than 90% of all mass-going Catholics.

When I opened the thread, I thought you wanted to go dressed as Blessed John XXIII and thought, “Well, it IS Catholic, but I wouldn’t recommend it.” 🙂

I think the focus should be that one dresses to not only to honor the Lord, but also so as to be modest and not attract attention to oneself. There seems to be no problem with what you propose.

Compared to what 90% of what I see kids wear to mass, I would say the clothing is most appropriate.

Catholicof94 I believe it is so awesome that you would ask this. I think it is awesome that you are concerned of your appearance in the presence of God.
Yes, your uniform is absolutely appropriate. I wish half the congregation at my Parish dressed as nicely. I sadly have seen jeans, jean shorts, shorts, mini skirts (yes mini skirts can you believe it??) I am not their for a fashion show. And, neither are they. I am there to spend time with God and his Son. When I am in Mass I really could care less if you were covered in mud. I truly think some are drawn to God and the Church and at times that yearning to be near him is immediate and some go as they are. And I think that is awesome. I have witnessed some people get to Mass ten minutes early and beg the Priest to hear his and/or her Confession so they could take Communion. Can you only imagine the Angels that sung that day.
You look fine.

For Daily Mass, especially during the Summer, many people will come wearing shorts and t-shirts, especially younger people. The priest later told me that an older lady went up to him to ask him to say something. She said it was horrible, scandalous, and inappropriate for our Lord. The priest informed her, however, that these young men were giving up their lunch after digging ditches to come to Mass, that there was one person who couldn’t afford nice clothing, and a few other people who he didn’t know why they dressed like that. The priest told me that he would rather someone come dressed in shorts to Daily Mass than not to come at all (his feelings for Sunday Mass were a little different, but I think that it is because it’s easier to come to Sunday Mass, and you can plan and dress accordingly). When I was a Protestant, it drove me crazy when people would comment on what I wore. G-d takes me as I am. Now that I am Catholic, I try to balance this same feeling with the fact that it is Christ in the tabernacle.

If some (most?) of the adults in my parish dressed that well, I’d be dancing (non-liturgically, of course) in the pews. 🙂

About 1/3 of the people at my Church in Florida come in Shorts and Polo shirts at Sunday Mass. It seems like the norm. As a ‘snow bird’ it looks a little strange to me, but no one seems to mind. In fact, next winter, I think I will join the crowd and wear my walking shorts.
