Can i expect him to ever train his eyes, and is his still looking as wrong as i feel it is?

Rachel, I’m so sorry your meeting was a waste of your time. Try to remember that this priest doesn’t live with the situation and doesn’t really know what is going on. This is still your decision, and you are the one who has to live with it, not him. Priests can be great, but sometimes they just don’t get it.

Never ignore the Mama Bear inside you.

Keep talking and keep telling until you find someone who really gets it.

our meeting with a priest from another parish did not go well. fr. said a perfectly normal man can look at his daughters and suddenly realize he is feeling certain things he is shocked by. But dh doesn’t admit to those feelings, even tho I’ve seen the looks he takes at our daughters, and he has no shame or shock at his behavior. Does this mean he is not feeling anything or that he is not bothered by his feelings or that he buries them even from himself. Fr. said dh is safe to have back in our home – how can he come to that in mere minutes of just a quick ‘I don’t look inappropriately’ sayso fro my dh? He thinks my telling the teens has ruined things for dh, didn’t listen to how it is teaching them to disregard their feeling when they are looked at, to think a normal marriage has a husband who really doesn’t care and a sad lonely wife. The priest used to be at our parish, back when dh went thru rcia and joined the Church, which was at my insistence that he stop floating around w/o a church and study up and find one any church as a better example for our 6 children that only ever saw him go to church when he was being paid to do so as soloist, choir director, special music, etc. Fr. said he never talked much or shared in rcia so he never got to know him well. I came off as a crazy woman who wants the world and is upset I can’t have it. I just wanted to let fr. know who I was married to that the world doesn’t see, but I look like a witch.
You’d get more sympathy from a traditional Catholic priest, there’s a lot of bad viewpoints floating around in other circles, especially about sexual attraction and sin in that regard.

People treat very lightly, when it isn’t at all. We are in tough times in the Church today, on all levels.

Did dh walk out with a triumphant smirk, like “See… you’re the only one with a problem?”

BTDT. Again, unless someone has lived with these types, they don’t understand what it’s like trying to explain the seriousness. It’s like trying to describe air. You know it’s all about you. You know you’re breathing it. But you can’t touch it or feel it and you don’t have the vocabulary to describe it.

Yes, you come off looking crazy and they come off looking victimized.

The problem is… the courts also take the same attitude. So then when your kids are put into the mix, YOU are accused of “alienation of affections” because of course kids can’t see for themselves and you must have turned them against a parent.

It all ends up making you hopeless.

Did you describe to the priest your husband refusing to close the door so your children are exposed to him dressing?

Sometimes men sit and feel sorry for each other and project how they feel when they find themselves looking at a woman inappropriately. Your husband played Father like a fiddle.

Make sure your daughters are in with counselors. That testimony from a professional can be very helpful in court.

If it comes to that.

TRUE…

I normally don’t read these threads. I probably don’t belong here anyway and I’m not Catholic.

The subject surprised me, It was very hard to read, made me both angry and sad. I know what it is like, not as the spouse, but as the child.

I hope to God these children did not experience the worse case scenario. You can remove the problem but the scar is always there, and the memories. The offender doesn’t care because they do not feel or think the same way normal people do. They can’t. Everything is fine as long as you don’t complain. That’s because they are vampires and your their mirror. They need you to see them as “perfect”. They are empty, needing your soul to feed and to feel.

When complimented they love the way they look, they like that reflection in the mirror your holding. They are master manipulators, their whole life is a masquerade. They cannot handle having the “perfect” mask ripped off.

All these references to parts in the post, it easier to abuse someone that has been reduced from a person or child to just “parts”. It’s dehumanizing.

And the girls will be angry, they tried to warn and no one listened. I know what that feels like. And how old is this man? And he works with kids? What makes anyone think he is no threat to another person’s child if he can look at his own flesh and blood that way? If there is a problem then it did not just start recently. It began a long time ago. Imagine being a parent of a child who was hurt by a man working with them, whose wife had her suspicions and said nothing to those in charge. They would have every right to be upset.

This is why people talk about the catholic church and sex abuse in the same sentences. The fundamentalists have a huge problem too and are good at covering it up or ignoring. They just make it go away and let the “problem” move on to new kids. In that circle they have their own terminology, it’s called **passing the trash. **

So what if he said he isn’t attracted to younger kids. How can anyone trust anything that comes out of his mouth? I’ve been abused by a preacher too who supposedly only liked teens… I was 6.

I got so sick reading that he danced around naked when the child was 2 or 3, to “draw her attention away”, or whatever the lame explanation was. HAH! Two words for you: DANGLING PARTICIPLE.

True, without going into too much detail, I worked in an area closely related. Also In my state the parent is in deep caca if they suspected abuse and did nothing.

She didn’t see it before, she was brainwashed, but now she is healing and is seeing a little more clearly.

For God’s sake I pray those kids are already in counseling, protect them, protect the custody rights. Respect them, they may not want to confide in mom. Telling a professional outside party may be easier. Plus if a kid is used to putting on an act for the outside world and they speak about the unspeakable things that they HAD to pretend did not exist to stay sane, they are slammed hard with reality. It hurts and it sucks.

If I had parents I would not want them on his side. And of course he wants to buy a house nearby. Markets are bad, more of his assets will be tied up. and he can keep an eye on her, with the benefit of “perks”. He does not want her telling anyone what he looks like without the “mask.” He’s pulling the strings. Now he can keep track of what is being said, especially if she talks to parents about personal things.

Kids come first, staying could also destroy their faith especially if they have already prayed for help. It hurt mine, then I moved on to razorblades. I have a high tolerance to pain, but the cutting made me forget about the pain inside. What kind of God do people worship that they would honestly believe it is his will they stay, be abused, and live out miserable lives in a dark twisted hell on earth?

I will not post these lyrics, too intense for some, but go to this video and listen. The guy who wrote it is bi-polar, its for all those scarred by ones who wore a christian mask. It’s angry and full of pain. You don’t want your kids to end this way.

He is not going to change because he sees himself as “perfect”. The only way possible is with God and a wise counselor who can see and cut right through his BS. And it will take lots of time. People like him are good at saying what they think a person wants to hear.

Even if the worst hasn’t happened, it is bad enough as it is. Keep a journal, makes notes of phone conversations as well. Record too if possible. The other posters gave good advice, talk to a lawyer, be prepared, know your rights and protect those kids!

I have to go find my happy place now. May God heal you all.

One last thing…

If there is no accountability how can there be forgiveness?

Auriel, you are always welcome here. You have friends here. You have people who understand and who want you to remember that God’s strongest words were reserved for those who scandalized innocent children.

“It would have been better for that man had he never been born.”

Thank you for your honesty and warnings. I know it tears open a place you are trying to heal to talk about it.

God love you.

I was just thinking that if you go to bpdcentral.com, which is a site for people living with borderlines (which may or may not exactly apply) there are two books there which would definitely apply. They are both about protecting yourself legally and mentally as you either live with or divorce a person who lives behind that mask of perpetual innocence. I would pull them off my shelf and check the titles, but I gave them to the women’s shelter.

bpdcentral.com/index.php on the left sidebar, one is called Splitting and one Love & Loathing.

Auriel,
God bless you for your candid honest advice, i hope she listens to you.
I welcome you here.
Trust God with your past , He CAN heal. Anything.

Don’t be afraid to ask Mary to help too, you might be very surprised.
He gave her to us as OUR Mother, in His last dying breath.
Right after we tortured Him to death.

Just a quick update: he wants to be here on Christmas morning to see the kids open at less some presents and I asked the teens how they would feel and they don’t want him here of course. His reply then was then he shouldn’t have to give them anything. He still feels he is the wronged party.

Well, when you’re a narcissist, you only give a present to get something in return. Since he’s probably never given his kids something without getting positive feedback in return, or a gift or whatever… of course he’ll react to their anger with pettiness and selfishness.

Instead of being grief-stricken that his daughters feel so uncomfortable about him staring at their ***** that they don’t want him around, and being remorseful for the damage he caused, he’s going to refuse to give them something. 👍

No, no parent HAS to give their kids a gift. But if you only give to get something in return, it’s not a gift. It’s a trade. It’s a relationship based on payment for services rendered. Nothing in there about love or sacrifice or altruism.

Why am I not surprised.

Enjoy your peace and quiet without him.

Until he’s sorry for what he does and stops playing the victim, I hate to say it, but you don’t have anything to work with.

Your gift to your daughters is that for the first time in years someone is treating their comfort and feelings with respect, as if they matter.

Work on helping them build their self respect and dignity so they don’t end up with husbands just like daddy and feel they have to “take it” because that’s all they’ve known.

I have a feeling they don’t want any gifts from him, because they understand and reject the particular strings attached.

I wish you a peaceful Christmas, and wisdom as you figure out how to celebrate.

yes. all this.

Lusting is also impractical. If you’re not going to act on your lust, which most of us don’t, why bother getting worked up like that, and dishonoring yourself in the process? Waste of time, energy, dignity and relationships.

Well put. Sin is often an inappropriate way of meeting a real need, and if we shine the light on it, it’s almost embarrassing how we try to cobble together something fleshly when there is something better and higher available to us.

That’s one thing I learned in the confessional when I was first Catholic. The priest asked me why I did what I did, and then the assigned penance was to do what I really needed to do to meet that need.
