dnelson, when you post things like this (which are completely false and misleading statements), it gives me the distinct impression that you simply do not care to understand what Catholics believe and why. Are you only here to “convert” us “unsuspecting” Catholics?

In the beginning of the thread, you seemed genuinely interested in understanding what Catholics believe and why. I do not get that impression from your later posts.
Dont try to shift the attention of the subject at hand please. how can i understand what you believe if i don’t ask questions? and whenever you do answer a question it is copy past, and not only that but you cant explain it.
i did not expect my questions to be cuddle or pleasant to answer. they are not tome and I’m not Catholic. I would be offended and shaken if my church was doing that or permitting that too.
ok you say that i am trying to mislead people by getting them to think and use their God given ability.

for you to sustain your claim please explain this:

Masonic Lodge in Italy appoints Catholic priest as chaplain, claims “openness” to Catholic Church
catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=4581

as you can see this is a Catholic web site.
as you can see my claims has validity to it that you are not willing to answer.
tell me why is this person still holding office in the church?
i have asked you many questions and there is never an straight answer. what you want me to do is sift through every thing that you copy past and come to your conclusion.
no my friend it does not work like that. i did not come here for my conclusion, i came here for yours. is that too much to ask? are you offended because i ask question?
when ever you ask me a question i try to detail it out for you as best i can, if you ca understand English then you will understand what i say and what i believe. as you can see i take my time and look into what i present.

this is a good question. please give me a few day to see what i find and get back to you ok.
and you can believe that i will be back with facts. and if i cant find anything I’m not afaied to say i don’t know.
so give me a few days ok.

thank you for your patience with me.and may God bless you.
Dont worry about coming back to say you don’t know - it’s already obvious that you dont know! The question simply becomes who are you gonna trust to answer the questions?
Who’s “facts” will you be returning with? Scriptural facts or the “opinions of men”? Scripture won’t provide the answers. It is the “pillar and foundation of truth” - the church - which will provide the answers. But that presents some real problems for someone who believes the true church was killed off early on - so early that we cant take the word of the immediate successors to the apostles. You are about to discover you trust them far more than you ever realized!

Good to see the Church reaching out to those who have fallen away. Missionaries of the Gospel!
1st Cor. 9: 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak. I became all things to all men, that I might save all.

Philthy;5512407:
yes we do have a leader, glad you asked that question. our leader is the bible. you can ask him any question you like 24/7.
I did-he gave me very different answers than he did you, how do we resolve that?
and for the self apointed spokesperson am not. i don’t put my trust in any leader like you do. if any of our leaders step out of line with the bible i would condemn he or she as well.
How do you determine if they have stepped out of line with the bible?
you are trying to pin something on me that you are doing. you cant answer any question with out checking with what your leader says. most of you would not even venture to try and explain it because you don’t feel like you can, and i cant say i blaim you. hat is too confusing for you to understand.
Actaully your questions have been answered in detail. you respond by cuting and pasting and pasting excerpts from scripture and demanding we accept your **personal **intperpeation of it

Shift attention? I was responding to something you said! Cut and paste? The only thing I have cut-and-pasted in any of my posts are excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that you requested. You led me to believe that you were more interested in what the Church officialy says about certain things rather than any of our personal opinions.

So you found one article about one priest who was appointed as a chaplain for the masons. Do you know for certain that this priest was never disciplined for this? I would do some research on it if I were you. In any case, Catholic teaching does not rise or fall on the actions of one priest. And your insinuation that Catholics are excommunicated for following the Bible is very dubious.

I’m not at all offended by you asking questions. Go right ahead. But I no longer believe that you have come here to openly and honestly discuss these issues (as I did at the start of this thread). I’m very sorry to have to say that.

Guess you missed this part:

"During his address announcing the appointment of the priest, whom he did not identify by name."

I
additionally, there is nothing confirming the priest accepted the position or Rome approved the position. The entire article is stating what the masons claimed but nothing in regard to responses from the Vatican.

what interpretation friend? i dont see any interpretation of anything. what i see are a few statemenst that you cannot explain.

I dont mean to sound rude my friend but you dont have anything to say.
I dont think you are in any position to come here and try to tell me what you think. first of all you cant think for yourself. you are not permitted to use you brain. what you do is take what they give you and take a seat.
tell me something, did i make anything up with what i said here? what part of that did you not understand?
tell me something else? where do you find mary in all this. where in the bible do you find mery with a crown? i know you believe that mary was a queen. tell me wee did you get that information from? i see a lot of your pictures of Mary and she is dect with gold. where did that come from? i know you have no idea. so all you can say is the church said so.
come on im not asking for much. all I’m asking for is for you to tell me what it mean.
I’m not asking you to make anything up, for pease sake all you have to do is explain to me what your church say it means. this is why i said that you dont know what you believe.
none of you so far can explain what it mean, every thing is cut and past.

A lot of posters have not cut & pasted at all - this one included.

it is so plain to you but you cant explain it. think you can just copy past something.
tell me something, when you go to do an school exam you can probable cheat and get the answers but that does not mean you know what you are doing.

you speak as thou im asking you to make it up for me. no, im not asking that, im asking you to explain it. if you copy past i cant ask you anything, bacause you dont know anything.

so the 12 disciples was arounf before Jesus was born. oh how i wish i could ask you some questions. but whats the use?

the same chapter tells you who the dragon is. it is the devil but the vehicle that he used was Rome, not a man.
i dont know how you got him in thwe and neither do you so i will not ask you.

this queen of heaven that you talk bout that has a crown and dect with gold it none other than Semiramis the wife of Nimrod.
she is a real queen

Actually, she is a compound character - partly the goddess Ishtar, partly an Assyrian “Queen Mother” called Sammuramat (810-05), partly a seventh-century “Queen Mother” called Naq’ia-Zakutu, with perhaps a dash of a rather fearsome fifth-century lady called Parysatis thrown in. So she is not a single individual.

In the book this Semiramis-Nimrod-Tammuz stuff is from, Semiramis is a woman of dodgy morals who lived around 2181, & the supposed origin of just about any goddess one cares to name. Tammuz - the god Dumuzi - was the son of a sheep-goddess; this book makes him son of “Semiramis”. The book bears almost no relation to what the texts say. A good deal is known about the religion of Mesopotamia - though there are, inevitably, many gaps in what can be known - & it is not very like Catholicism at all. It does share a good deal with the religions of its neighbours, including Israel.
that was dect in gold and had a crown and who cliamed that she was the queen of heaven, she also said she had a virgin birth. her son was called tamus and he was suppose to the the savior of the world.

So why is there no evidence of this in the texts from Babylonia & Assyria ?

i bet you did not know that. look it up and see how stickingly familier every thing is to you.

Oh, a lot of us are very familiar with this silliness - but frequent repetition does not make this fiction any less fictitious.

heres is what God had to say about your Queen of heaver

Jeremiah 7:18
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

When do we do either of those ? We have only the One God

you think this queen of heaven is new? no my friend it was long before jesus was born.
A & B can have the same titles without being the same persons - so the title “Q of H” in Jeremiah is not a good guide to Catholic ideas about the BVM as Q of H. Zeus & Jesus are both called “Saviour” - are we to think them the same ? If not - what makes it necessary to see in Jeremiah’s words any reference to the BVM ?
i will let you in on a little secret. before Jesus comes back you will see with your own eyes this woman standing on a moon and clothed with the sun. Literally she will say that the CC is the true church. There will be supernatural signs in the heaven and a celestial being so bright that you will not be able to look upon him, He will appear in the sky saying that he is Jesus and that he changed the Sabbath to Sunday. He will go to the holy Sea and sit on his throne and give the pope his keys.
He will order Adventist people to be killed because we cause trouble to the earth.
We will not be able to buy or sell and we will not have any rights what so ever.
You believe in all these apparitions of Mary as signs that you have the right church?

Even if they were all undoubtedly from God, they would still be entirely insufficient to be proofs that the CC is the true Church. Apparitions, no matter how genuine, do not & cannot have that kind of weight

Most of you have not seen anything yourself but that will soon change. The day is coming when everybody will see and hear Mary speak in the skies.
If you think we don’t know and believe that these apparitions takes place you need to take a look at what we believe.
Read the last 5 chapters of the great controversy and then you will have some idea of what we know is going to happen.

Thanks, but I trust Christ for that. Acts 1.7 will do, TY.

Regardless of the character or doctrines of the CC:
  • this stuff about Semiramis, Nimrod & Tammuz is fiction.
  • It is not historical
  • It has no basis in the religion of Ancient Mesopotamia - & was unknown until 1858, when the book containing it all was published.
  • It has no serious claim to be regarded as historical
  • The author had no knowledge of the language, otherwise he would not have thought that Aramaic was the language of Mesopotamia from about 2181 to about 600.
So it cannot be taken as history, or used as such. This has very little to do with the rights & wrongs of SDA-RC debate, & a great deal to do with the history and religion of Ancient Mesopotamia & the use of these in that debate.

To argue against Catholicism (or anything else for that matter), something with its foundations in fact rather than fiction is advisable. S & N & T have about as much basis in reality as the Tooth Fairy. The TF has probably been around a bit longer 😉

None of that was cut & pasted.

dnelson001;5517816:
Amen to that!
You seem to have ignored all of my questions, but I’ll try yours anyhow. Actually you did answer one: there is no authority to speak for the SDA. Whatever you hold to be true based upon your personal, fallible opinion is “the truth”. The only problem is that you admitted that you have made some mistakes and such an admission creates the possibility that EVERYTHING you believe will, at some future point, change. Sounds a lot like most of the SDA history to me.

who said i was speaking for SDA? i speak for myself. what i know and believe is what i have come to understand with facts.
admitting that i was mistaken on what the stars represented when all the facts states so is a sin then i guess i am guilty. holding onto something when it is proven to be wrong is plain stupidity.
you see, that is what seperates me from you.

Is Mary essential for salvation?
She is not.
she is not, i agree.

Do we get to Jesus by Mary?
Yes, since Jesus remains fully human and fully Divine, the humanity of Jesus is forever linked to his birth which God willed to be through Mary.
she is not, but we cant get to Jesus if it is not by her. huuum.
this is what i’m talking about see. one big confusion.

Do you believe that we would not have salvation if Mary had said no?
No I dont believe and I dont disbelieve it. The salvation we do have through the person of Jesus Christ we would not have had.
Whether God would have chosen another woman if Mary had said no is simply unknown. Even if you believe He would have, we don’t know if that would have been 2000 years ago, 2000 years from now, or at some other point. Unknown, and Scripture is silent on the matter.

no, i main maybe, i mean yes, i dont know.

Do you believe that Mary gave birth to the eternal God or to the body of a man that God prepared for himself (the Messiah)?
I believe Mary gave birth to the eternally begotten Son of God, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God.
This profound mystery is known as the Incarnation.
You sound like you dont believe that Jesus Christ was, is, and forever shall be God. Do you believe that Jesus Christ was, is, forever shall be God? Yes and No rules apply!
Peace be with you
well hear is something that may shock you. i belive that mary give birth to the son of God too. i belive that it was a virgin birth, i believe every thing that the bible say. i believe that God choose her because she was the best among the Jewish people in God sight.
i dont have anything againts Mary. she is the mother of our Lord and savior.
the problem is not that she give birth to the creatos on this earth, the problem is that you try to make her a god as well. unly a God should be wirshiped and prayed to. that is not biblical. and that is what is being rejected. when you say that Mary is the mother of God you make it sound like Jesus got his divinity from Mary and not from himself. that is the point that i’m trying to make.

This is a very important part of SDA theology. They teach that any Chrisitans who worship on Sunday instead of Saturday are worshiping the “Beast” of the apocalypse. This is one of the few things that Catholics, and Protestants agree with. We all accept the overwhelming evidence in the New testament, as well as the early church writings that Christians worshipped on Sunday. The SDA will try to cloud this or any issue with a myriad of unrelated scriptures taken out of context to back their story. Look again at the questions they posed at the beginning of the thread. Take for instance question 13.
your statement is simple not true. you need to read our books your self and stop saying what they tell you.
we do not believe that people that worship on Sundat ar worshiping the beast. you will not find that in any or our books. Sunday will not be come the mark of the beast until the sunday law is inforced by the government.
so you need to get your facts strait. i hope you dont believe that that will never happen. because if you don’t, when it happen then you will remember this post and will have to make a discision. the bible says: and this gospel will go out to all the world as a witness. a witmess again all who hear it and choos to obay or disobay it.
“13. Did God tell the pope to bring all the pagans symbols and ornaments?”
What are they talking about here? This question just like all the other questions is very misleading, and full of innuendo.
ask your priest. he seams to know were they come from. you kake it sound like im making it up.
Not long ago I was watching one of their videos on line and the speaker was talking about Sunday worship. In an off hand way he mentioned that Sunday was the day named after the Roman Sun God. He didn’t elaborate, and moved on in his lecture, but the insinuation was that those who worshipped on Sunday worshipped a pagan God. He didn’t bother to add that Saturday was named after the Roman God Saturn. So using his logic shouldn’t we then infer that those who worship on Saturday worship the pagan God Saturn??? When I listen to these people I realize that what they don’t say is as important as what they do.
the reason why it make a difference is because we claim to worship the God of heaven. the pagan sun worshipers did not. i know you clain that they were worshipping the God of heaven and did not know it. but you can decieve yourself as much as you like. they knew what God they were worshipping. and it was not the God that we claim to worship.

God bless

There you go again-telling Cathiolics what it is that we believe and then telling us why we shouldnt believe it. . Are you running out of straw yet?

You sound so arrogant it’s unbelievable. Are you saying you are so in tune with God that when you interpret, it’s Him doing the talking? You’re declaring yourself our own little Pope and making yourself look like quite the fool here. The only thing that ‘teachers’ like yourself manage, is a scattering of the faith. You preach outside of Holy Mother Church and pick the ignorant off like fish in a barrel. And good luck ‘teaching’ those of us in this forum anything. We’ve heard it all here and nothing you say is new or brings enlightenment to Catholics. It’s all just copying and pasting from an invention created about 150 years ago.
mity strong words brother.
i will tell you what foolishness is. it is to kneel down and pray to a pease of wood and a pease of stone. foolishness is to come and give thansk to a pease of wood and a pease of stone for your blessings. but you are a very very smart person i believe.

may God bless you

Catholics do not kneel to Statues. WE kneel to God. You are obviously someone who has never been to Mass. Get your facts straight and learn what we Believe before you throw lies in our Face… Coward… You dare throw about lies instead of face God himself in his own house…

Oh my-we’re pulling out all the stops now. There is the version of theten commandments I am sure you beleive is correct:

  1. *]You shall have no other gods but me.
*]You shall not make unto you any graven images
*]You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
*]You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
    *]Honor your mother and father
    *]You shall not murder
    *]You shall not commit adultery
    *]You shall not steal
*]You shall not bear false witness
*]You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

And here is the cathiolic/Lutheran Version:

    1. *]I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides me. You shall not make unto you any graven images
*]You shall not take the name of the Lord God in vain
*]Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day
*]Honor your father and your mother
      *]You shall not kill
      *]You shall not commit adultery
      *]You shall not steal
*]You shall not bear false witness
*]You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife
*]You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods

Now if we use you rationale you have deleted the ninth commandment!

Of course its all nonsense because there were no numbers given OR verses given when Scripture was written. In fact the commandment are the same-Catholics combine 1 & 2 , Protestant combine 9&10.

You have been shown that Sunday was celebretaed as the Sabbath almost from the day Christ ascended to heaven-your only rebuttal is to claim superior interpreation skills and claim that there is no record of Christians celebrating Sabbath on Saturday becuase Christians who clebretated the Sabbath on saturday were murdered by those who did it on Sunday.

    1. let me give you the real ten comandments:

      Exodus 20:1-17:

1: And God spake all these words, saying,
2: I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
      5: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6: And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9: Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
      13: Thou shalt not kill.
14: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
      15: Thou shalt not steal.
16: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ***, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

let me give you the real ten comandments:

Exodus 20:1-17:

1: And God spake all these words, saying,

17: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ***, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
And here is another version of the real ten commandments…please explain why the sabbath commandment is different in this version as compared with the version you shared!

Deuteronomy 5:1-21:

1And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

2The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

**3The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. **

4The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount) saying,

6I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

8Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

9Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

10And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

11Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

**12Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

13Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

14But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ***, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

15And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.**

16Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

17Thou shalt not kill.

18Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

19Neither shalt thou steal.

20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

21Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ***, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

God bless all!!!

We kneel to the presence of Jesus in the Eucherist, the Body of Christ in the tabernacle. Your comment was childish.

this is a good question. please give me a few day to see what i find and get back to you ok.
and you can believe that i will be back with facts. and if i cant find anything I’m not afaied to say i don’t know.
so give me a few days ok.

thank you for your patience with me.and may God bless you.
Well then answer the other posts if you can’t answer this. Knowing you have one of many “versions” of the Bible, you would think you would seek to know where the Holy Bible comes from and what the true Holy Bible says comparing to the one you refer to. Why would you claim to know Scripture when you don’t even know where it comes from or what differences yours has compared to the real Bible which has not changed through out history?

Answer these other post then seeing as how you have difficulty with the questions pertaining to where the Bible came from. You get very critical and insulting with your accusations against the Catholic Faith so respond to these posts with credible references.

let me give you the real ten comandments:

Exodus 20:1-17:

1: And God spake all these words, saying,
2: I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6: And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
And here are the same verses as found in the Catholic New American Bible. Would you please show us where this has deleted the second commandment as you claim?

1 1 Then God delivered all these commandments: 2 "I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. 3 You shall not have other gods besides me. 4 You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; 5 2 you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their fathers’ wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation; 6 but bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished him who takes his name in vain. 8 "Remember to keep holy the sabbath day. 9 Six days you may labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then either by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your beast, or by the alien who lives with you. 11 In six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. 12 "Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you. 13 "You shall not kill. 14 "You shall not commit adultery. 15 "You shall not steal. 16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ***, nor anything else that belongs to him.”

And here is another version of the real ten commandments…please explain why the sabbath commandment is different in this version as compared with the version you shared!
