I am Catholic and my Protestant friend has asked me to come with him and his Protestant friends to hand out Gideon Bibles to people on the street over Halloween weekend in a city that claims to be the “Halloween capital of the nation” and has gatherings of Wicca.

Is there any problem with doing this? I’m not scared of going, but I don’t necessarily “feel” called to do that.

The problem is not about doing something frightening. (I doubt that you’ll be in any positive spiritual danger by going to the “Halloween capital of the nation.”) The problem is with a Catholic handing out Protestant Bibles. Protestant Bibles are incomplete – by at least seven Old Testament books. I cannot recommend that a Catholic participate in distributing them. However, if your friend is also passing out Christian tracts that do not have distinctly Protestant theology in them, you could help distribute those. Or you could order a package of Catholic Answers’ outreach tract God’s Love For You, and distribute them alongside your Protestant friends.
