I was curious about can I have more than one saint? I joined the church in 2018 . I have a patron saint already . But can I have more than one to go to in time of need?
I pray to St. Anthony, St. Aquilina, St. Basil, St. Benedict, St. Cecilia, St. Christopher, Sts. Francisco & Jacinta of Fatima, St. Ignatius, St. John the Baptist, St. Nicholas, St. Padre Pio, St. Josaphat, St. Stephen, Sts. Michael, Gabriel & Raphael, my Guardian Angel (can’t forget him!) and the Saint(s) of the day. (I hope I didn’t forget any because they all help me!)
You can have as many special or patron saints as you like.
I like reading about saints, and I easily have 2 dozen primary go-to saints and then another 2 dozen runners-up.
Also, different saints for different things.
A good way to learn about saints is to follow the online liturgical calendars that have little bios of a saint, or sometimes multiple saints, for every day.
Here are two sites: they each have slightly different saints because one is for USA and the other is for UK.
If you think a saint is interesting after reading the short bio, you can usually find a longer article about the person on Wikipedia or by googling.
As for free books, does your parish have a library? Many parishes in US have a library of books on Catholic topics that you can borrow. Or, you could go to the public library in your area.
