English is not my first language, so I apologize for any misspellings.

I like to watch Billy Graham and Joyce Meyer, when they talk about God I really feel like he is talking to me. but they are Evangelicals. Can I watch them as Catholic or not? Btw, they are talking about the same God and using the same New Testament and the same message of the christ.

It’s not necessarily the same new testament since verses were changed to fit reformer theology. It’s certainly not the same message of Christ. It is “their” interpretation of God. Not God’s interpretation of God (which was revealed through His One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church). You are not forbidden from watching them, but I would argue that it can be very harmful if you are not grounded in your Catholic faith. There are tons of Catholic speakers you could listen too that would emphasize the Truth of God and His Catholic Church and not man’s interpretation of God like these protestant and non denominational types. When you have your Catholic faith, gifted to the world by Christ Himself, man made protestantism just doesn’t stand up.

SaintPatrick333’s caution is well warranted. Being well grounded in our Catholic faith first, would help us to filter anything incompatible which might incidentally pop up in a non-Catholic exegesis.

That being said, I have enjoyed listening to Billy Graham and Joyce Meyer (although one of my friends told me that her more recent stuff isn’t quite as good as the earlier) in the past. Another who I truly enjoy listening to on rare occasions when the opportunity presents itself is Dr. Michael Yousef.

🙂

That’s up to you and your conscience. Personally I have found Joyce Meyer’s books very helpful.

Try Scott Hahn. He is a Catholic convert and biblically based. Google Lighthouse Catholic Media. They have many CDs, including his. See is you get EWTN and Catholic radio.l

Thank you for the answer guys.

Another question, Is there any website that I can sign in and learn more about the Catholic faith (like course or something), because I found some Evangelical websites have that and I wonder if I can find catholic one.

I have seen at least one–I’m sorry I have no more information about it, but keep looking.

WRT the “same” Bible: I looked up the word used for “do penance” in several Bibles. In The Protestant Bibles, they use the word repent. In English, there is a big difference! Repenting is just feeling bad that you did something: I repent having given her the money. It does not carry the connotation of performing an act or of some reparation the way doing penance does.

This *completely *skews (or shows how skewed already) their theology on how to handle sin.

There are many other points like this.

The more I learned about Catholicism, the less I cared about listening to the Protestant people I’d listened to before I returned to the Catholic Church. I became too hungry for truth.

Protestants haven’t changed the NT, AFAIU.

Another great Catholic speaker is Gus Lloyd who has a morning program on the Catholic Channel on XM/Sirius satellite radio.

You could try reading the Cathechism, or if you have the patience for it Catholic encyclopedia online (lots and lots of words). And although I don’t know if it is recommended, and I have not read it, maybe Catholicism for Dummies. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

www.churchmilitant.tv has some excellent programs and dvd’s available that teach about the Catholic faith. Of course, Catholic Answers and EWTN websites are also very good. You might also try www.vatican.va, the Vatican’s own website. Hope you’ll find these suggestions of help.🙂
The book the previous poster wrote about, “Catholicism for Dummies,” is a very good piece of literature on the faith because it was written by two priests, Trigilio and Gergenti, who often appear on EWTN.

Here is a blog which has lots of links to good audio Cathooic resources.

Also, search for Fr Chad Ripperger and go to his multimedia page. Many excellent talks, for which there is a charge of either a small donation or prayer.

And Institute for Catholic Culture (then go to their Library)… and Audio Sancto.

If you can’t find these resources, I’ll link them, but I can only post one link per post as I am using an iPod.

Dearest The Break

Yes, of course you can listen to them.

They are so wise and practical and love the Lord. They are not leading anyone away from the teachings of the Catholic Church. Instead they offer hugely practical and helpful advice on how to live everyday life.

God bless you.

I used to go to a friend’s place to work on a website we have and he always stopped to watch Joyce Myers. He raved about her and, as he has stopped attending his denomination because of increasing liberal changes to the worship, he has come to regard watching her as fulfilling his Christian obligation. 🤷

However, he would interject at times, asking me what I thought of what she had said, and I would reply, “She almost sounds Catholic to me”. 🙂

Try listening to Fr Larry Richards, he’s on YouTube, what he says is funny at times but sometimes it makes me cry. He is challenging because he wants to save souls, not make people feel good about what they choose to believe. Thank God, our parish priest is the same. He is not out to be popular but talks the hard truth about the eternal consequences of sin, just like Fr Larry.

If you go here fatheraltier.excerptsofinri.com/ you can download The Fundamentals of Catholicism. 23 talks in all. I listen to them in the car. It is very sound teaching.

Eileen T - I’m just listening to Fr Richard on Youtube now and love him already! His style is great as he really doesn’t pull his punches - quite like Joyce Meyer actually! 🙂 So thank you for this. This is the great thing about forums as everyone gets the benefit of receiving the answers to someone’s question!

Do you have any teachings of his that you particularly like?

Blessings and thanks.
