Can I name a priest as my beneficiary?

I know there are certain orders that take a vow of poverty. This priest is an Archdiocesan priest in NY so I don’t think that applies. Is it allowable for him to be the beneficiary of an estate? I’m not planning on going anywhere (LOL) but I would like to change my Will. Thanks if you have any ideas.

It should be fine. Even if he were a religious. In the latter case, and depending, of course, on the particular Rule and/or Constitution(s) involved, the benefice would likely have to be passed to the Order or Congregation by the recipient. The donor, however is under no restriction.

Priests have parents, siblings and other siblings who name them as beneficiaries in their wills – of course it’s okay.
