Can I pray for a corrupt leader to be removed from power?

Is it morally permissible to pray to God that a corrupt and immoral leader resign or be removed from office?

I am referring to people like my country’s president, Jacob Zuma.

Mind you I am not even suggesting asking God that they die or come to any form of harm, as I accept that would be immoral. Just that they step down from office.

Any opinions on the subject?

I pray this often.
 
I don’t see why not, after all it would benefit the people of your country if he is corrupt for him to stand down. Or even to be brought to trial over his corruption.

Why not? In the Bible, God often punished evil or immoral rulers by causing them to lose their kingdoms. As long as the ruler in question is involved in objective evil (not just “I can’t stand the guy!” :D) there should be nothing wrong with it.

However, we would also do well to pray for the repentance and conversion of such leaders.

And, on a personal note, I feel for you. Our head of State is no beauty either! 😛
 
I agree with everyone about this, and I do pray for this sort of thing too, but even if a leader is removed from power, such as loosing an election, how do we know God had anything to do with it? Maybe there was just more people that favored the other guy, maybe their choice had been made up before you prayed, so it would have happened had you prayed for it or not.

The same thing can be said about Hitlers fall, we can give credit to God for it, but according to our history, it was the allies (humans) who brought him down.

When God removed leaders from power in biblical times, it was usually done in very dramatic fashion, so people would realize it was definitely God who did this…in our times, it seems like God answers prayers in ways that are vague, in that they could be an act of God, or they could be an act of man…very hard to tell the difference.

Just seems like in modern times, God prefers to sort of stay in the shadows and not do anything too dramatic, or too supernatural. Im not sure why he is like this.

Not necessarily true.

The wicked kings of Israel fell to an Assyrian invasion.

Rehoboam lost his sovereignty through civil war.

The kings of Judah fell to a BabylonIan invasion.

Antiochus Epiphanes died of illness.

Men (or microbes!) were the instruments but God was the one who decided to punish them.

He is a socialist, so I see no problem with praying for his removal. Socialism goes against Christian values.

One of my favorite lines from that show 😃

Perhaps more to this point: “Lord, please fill the position of xxxx with a righteous person, by whatever means You find necessary.”
