Can I receive Communion now that my ex-husband has died?

I have been told that I wasn’t able to receive Communion because my husband and I were legally separated. My ex-husband has recently died. My son is soon due to make his First Holy Communion and I would really like to be able to once again receive Communion. Am I or will I ever be allowed to receive Communion again?

If I understand you correctly, you legally separated from your husband and he has recently died. There was no mention of divorce or an attempt at remarriage while your husband was alive. If that is the case, you should not have been denied Communion in the first place. If you have been away from the sacraments for a while, I recommend going to confession before Communion, but I cannot see any current impediment to you receiving the sacraments.
