Can I ever go to penance and receive Holy Communion again ? I was pregnant at 16
and married in a civil ceremony , I had 4 children and was married 14 years . We were divorced and after 3 years I remarried . We have been married 30 years now , My husband was married before for 19 years his first wife was also pregnant when he got married in the catholic church . We were both raised Catholic and would like to renew our faith , years ago we started the annulment process but was financially unable to finish it.
We continue to go to mass for years waiting till finally we just gave up. We recently moved from Pa. to TX. I have started back to Mass and hope that I could at least go to penance . My husband is very ill and I know he misses Mass but he feels ashamed and will only go occasionally because he can’t take communion and go to penance . I want so much to feel apart of the church again and for him to worship without guilt.
