Can I receive the Eucharist?

Hi,

First of all, I’m scrupulous. Now, my question.
Right before Mass yesterday, something happened and it triggered doubts as to whether I had committed a mortal sin or not. At the time of Communion, I decided to go and receive the Eucharist, with that doubt in my mind. Now I know that I didn’t commit the doubtful mortal sin, but my question is this one: Did I commit sacrilege by receiving the Eucharist in a doubtful state of mind? Can I receive again today or should I go to Confession first?

If you are scrupulous do not ever ask anyone, including on the internet, about the sinfulness of anything or about your worthiness to receive Communion. Put yourself under obedience to a good Confessor/Spiritual director and do as he says. Period.

I would do that… except I can’t follow that rule as it is.

The parish I attend (where my regular confessor is) is about 20 minutes from where I live. I just can’t go there whenever I have a doubt and want to talk with him… I wish I could get a spiritual director, but it’s just really not possible for me right now.

If the parish is close enough for you to attend Mass, that’s close enough. You don’t need to run to Church whenever you have a doubt. You need to speak to your priest and do what he tells you. Your regular confessor can be your spiritual director for now.

I totally agree.

We have some members who are ultra scrupulous and instead of heeding advice to stop posting and talk to a priest and be guided by him they open dozens of threads asking if this or that is a sin.
