Can i recieve communion? guide about venial sin and mortal sin

the other day in a conversation in my church i said priests who rape children should be given the death penalty. i think as a catholic i shouldnt have said that, i know the church is against the death penalty now, however at the time i decided it was venial sin, and when i went to mass after that and i recieved communion. however now im not sure if this was venial or mortal sin, if it was mortal i also commited sacrilege. please help, im new to the church, i usually have problems deciding if i have to go to confession or not before recieving communion. is there a list of which sins are mortal and which venial? i cant seem to differentiate between the two. there is obvious stuff like killing or stealing or masturbating etc but sometimes the line is not that clear. thank y’all in advance for your help, God bless.

You can go to confession, tell priest your doubt and ask if that was venial or mortal sin. Nobody on this forum can tell you where you are.

Sin is voluntary. Did you think about it before speaking or just blurt it out? Could you retract it to make reparations?
