I’ve found a prayer which is called the St Michael Exorcism. Several websites, such as this and this claim that lay people can pray this prayer. Now, I thought of asking on here, in case this prayer may endager my soul or be an act of disobedience to the Holy See. I know that praying against evil isn’t a fun and exciting matter but I really want to pray this, so that I can be strenghtened against temptation and deliver demons away from me. I’m 15 years old and I really wanted to recite this in my room, but I don’t know if I’m meant to (I know a priest can bless houses, but my contact with the priest and the sacraments has been cut off by my parents) Can anyone help?
My friend, I would not fool around with any exorcism prayers. Stay away from such things.

I hope all of you read this. This matter is not a bone of contention in other countries. I admit that I am nobody. But I can read and comprehend. And I am very patient most of the time.

It is not a matter of who is right or wrong as individuals but what the Church really says.
Bishop Andrea Gemma on Laity & Exorcisms

CITY 'OF THE VATICAN - The laity can recite prayers of liberation and real exorcisms against persons harassed, haunted, obsessed or possessed by Satan and the spirits of hell? The question is a must in an era when even within the Church is believed less and less in action ‘perverse and perverted’ (words of the Servant of God Paul VI) of the devil, so that the bishops, first, deny the existence of the ‘father of lies’ and difficult to give a mandate to the exorcist priests of their dioceses. Result: the victims of the evil they face desperate journeys of hope in search of a priest authorized by their Ordinary them to release. That of the priest exorcist remains the first choice, but as he explains in exclusive ‘Petrus’ Bishop Emeritus of Isernia-Venafro, Bishop Andrea Gemma, one of the largest and most famous exorcist in Europe, the laity can and must exorcise brothers persecuted by Satan and his fallen angels. It 's totally unfounded, therefore, the interpretation of the regulations according to which only the priests, and, moreover, only those delegated by the bishop, would be allowed to practice exorcisms. However, if done with the fear of God and in the name of Christ, invoking the intercession of the Virgin Mary and the saints who in life have struggled more with the Devil, exorcism and prayers of liberation are equally effective even if recited by ’ simple 'lay. "I note with satisfaction the meantime - says Monsignor Gemma - fortunately the argument raises new interest among the people of God, despite the lack of preaching. I can assure you that this fact bother the Evil One, who would love to stay and work much more in the shadows. Coming to the question whether or not the laity to exorcise, the answer certainly in the affirmative, bearing in mind what is written in the Gospel. When Jesus sent the seventy disciples (cf. Mt 10: 1 ff) - note, not only the Apostles - the disciples to return to the Master say, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name’ (Mt 10, 17). Jesus then continues with the famous assertion that is a bright light on demonology, ‘I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning’ (ib 10, 18). All the baptized, then, are ‘exorcists’, I myself have received publicly exorcist when I was a mere layman. Of course, the prudence of the Church wished to regulate the exercise of this ministry according to the current regulations in force, but the fact remains that the laity can pray on a person for his liberation from evil spirits. " But then, when the Church emphasizes that only the priest can exorcise his bishop’s permission, what do you mean? Arrives on the clarification of Monsignor Gemma: "Under current legislation only the priest appointed by the bishop may publicly - and I stress, publicly - to carry out exorcisms and implement actions such as the imposition of the stole, hands, or the sprinkling of holy water, anointing with the holy oils - but in private - that is, in a closed room and not in front of the crowds - every baptized person, as mentioned, can, and should, order the demon to leave in peace brother disturbed. " We mentioned before, the journeys of hope that, particularly in Europe, many of the faithful should make looking for an exorcist, since often in their dioceses there are none. In recent years, many exorcists, secular and religious, to meet the needs of victims of the Evil One, have also begun to exorcise the phone. To Monsignor Gemma is a valuable method. "My daily experience - says, in fact, the prelate - tells me that exorcism is done by telephone immediately effective, as evidenced by the reactions on the other side of the wire. After all, who is the spirit of local distance does not matter, has the power of prayer and exorcism, as I always say, is nothing more than a prayer in the name of Christ and the Church. The devil can then fight from a distance. Consider that the great Pius XII exorcised Hitler directly from the Vatican, although, unfortunately, in that case, without effect. " Many lay people, including most ‘charismatic’, you hold back in to continue the ministry of deliverance with the fear of breaking a rule of the Church and of falling into sin. Another legend that Monsignor Gemma would like to dispel. "If everything is done in private, the prayers of deliverance and exorcism also imperative - that of Leo XIII in Latin can be a good example - there is no sin. It is, indeed, an act of fraternal charity, of which I can personally testify to the effectiveness. " An act of charity that is not absolutely requires the approval or the mandate of the diocesan bishop. “As I said - said Monsignor Gemma - do not need any permission: everything comes from the strength of the Baptism received and, therefore, dall’ontologica belonging to the Mystical Body of Christ.”

Yet, against the laity in the ministry of liberation, there is skepticism on the part of some exorcists of the province, perhaps jealous of a right which they think is theirs alone, invite those possessed by evil spirits not to trust anyone who is not a priest. "These exorcists are wrong to do so. It can be said that, in part, this atmosphere is unjustly derived from prudence that the Church has always been in such a sensitive area. In the lives of the saints, however, these precautions and this fear - I am thinking in Santa Gemma Galgani - had no reason to be. These saints, to whom the Devil appeared in human form or sometimes even angelic, ordered Satan to abandon its grip, and as they did so in the name of Christ, he was forced to obey and leave. I’m convinced that ignorance of the lives of the saints is the reason for such widespread mistrust and excessive precaution as to the laity. " The Exorcism unanimously that turns out to be the most effective one is, without a doubt, one in Latin Leo XIII. Monsignor Gemma has already explained that it can be used easily even by laymen to secure the release of people being possessed by the Devil. But not only. The laity can safely use the same formulas of the priests exorcists. “Just open the Ritual in force, in its second part offers a wide variety of formulas, if they are not immodest - adds Monsignor Gemma - I can refer you to my book ‘The Lord will deliver you’ (ed. Dehoniane)”. Established that a layman has the same right to a priest appointed by the bishop, even in private and not publicly, in a closed room and not in front of the congregation, in order to Satan and his fallen angels to leave the body (or the home or office) of a person, the poor possessed can be distinguished as a person seriously engaged in the ministry of deliverance from some wizard or sorcerer who claims to exorcise only for money or fanaticism? "I think the highlight-owned Monsignor Gemma - especially if it is at the mercy of the evil, know how to distinguish the true from the false exorcist immediately. However, in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises, you have to go with extreme caution in choosing who can ‘exorcise’, always wary of who, priest or layman, asks for the payment of money. The money, in fact, the dung of the devil. And who exorcises can not and must not accept at all, in exchange for his prayers and his commitment, money or other rewards. " The hope is that the Church urge more and more lay people to work for our brothers and sisters who are victims of evil. Monsignor Gemma subscribe: "The laity later, what we have said, can also supply, but only to some extent, the lack of exorcists, they can do so privately, as I explained thoroughly, or meet in prayer groups with or without the chairmanship of a sacred minister - in the latter case by not making public ritual gestures, let alone touch the sick, because I repeat that this can be done in private but not before the assembly of the faithful - precisely in order to help some troubled brother from the evil ".

BP thank you for the information. I haven’t made it all the way through, but it looks interesting.

This seems to be very kosher as they say, and I thank you for this information.
What is the most effective exorcism prayer, and should the layperson(s) fast and pray before ministering an exorcism?

Obviously, here Bishop Gemma touches on motivation. What is it that moves one to pray such a prayer? Is somebody doing it out of morbid curiosity? Does Christ compel one out of Love to do so? You can't learn how to conduct a rite of deliverance on a person in a book. You have to learn it from helping a exorcist priest. I am not trying to promote lay deliverance rites; although, some lay people do so after being examined by their bishop after being taught by an exorcist and under the guidance of a competent spiritual director who is knowledgeable on the subject of deliverance and exorcism.

The Holy Father's instructions for laity meant this prayer to be used as a preventative measure. For example lets suppose a Catholic family that prays daily together, attends Mass and receives the sacraments and is really devoted to their faith suddenly becomes all disrupted. The parents detect something is amiss. That is when one should say this prayer. And yes, fasting and other prayers including Anima Christi, Come Holy Spirit, the Litany of Saints, and the Rosary could be said before this prayer. And after this prayer prayers of thanksgiving and prayers asking the Holy Spirit to Bless your home and family with a full release of the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
A priest told me he went to a bookstore and was wandering looking at books where he meandered into the “New Age” section unaware. He picked up a book and a spell was on the left page and Pope Leo XIII’s Prayer on the other page. Not doubt Bishop Gemma had this type of situation in mind when he made that statement.

One should read from 1667 to 1673 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church to understand sacramentals. Sacramentals don't impart grace but help remove impediments from receiving graces.

This prayer can be said to prevent evil spirits from gaining a foothold in one's life. Importantly it doesn't replace daily prayer life which should include the Rosary daily. It can't make up for not going to Confession, Mass, and receiving Holy Communion. The prayer has fallen into disuse within the last 40 years. Although as late as 1967 it was published with Nihil Obstat and Imprimateur. I have an example included as an attachment.

Public use of this prayer for an official public solemn exorcism mean the priest in one part of this prayer can say "by my priestly ministry." That makes it a public rite and this is to be used in solemn exorcism. When the priest says the simple exorcism in Baptism he says this prayer by his personal holiness derived from his Baptism. But Baptism is a sacrament and priests are the only legitimate ministers of Baptism. Examples of simple exorcisms include prayers like the Sign of the Cross and the Our Father. Other examples of simple exorcisms are given on that Catholic Spiritual Warriors website given by Aussie77.

Oh about fasting: "Over the past 50+ years the Word of God read at mass has always stated that that kind of demon can not be cast out without prayer and fasting. Now it has been changed to, and I quote,"without prayer".No mention of fasting. I checked the mass readings and it was not a mistake that the priest made in the reading....what has happened?" I saw this and Lord help me, I don't know what is going on.

And that letter from the CDF as Fr. Amorth says concerning the prohibitions in Inde Ab Aliquot Annis: "First, official exorcisms are not allowed; they are reserved exclusively for the exorcist. The same holds true for the exorcism of Leo XIII, even though it is now part of the public domain. The private use of such exorcisms is another matter; at least, this is how I understand the above-cited document. "

In other words this whole letter concerns exclusively solemn exorcisms attempted by lay people. So I suggest leave praying over people to the priests.

I sum up your response with these words of yours, which seems appropriate:

He who exorcises must be a person of intense interior life, who intensely lives the life of grace.
Jesus to Priest Ottavio Michelini, November 12, 1978

My friend, I would not fool around with any exorcism prayers. Stay away from such things.
I agree, but there is nothing wrong with the short form that we used to say after Low Mass before the new Mass came into being. In fact, there are, I believe some bishops in this country that are asking their priests to return to saying the Prayer to St. Michael after Mass.

Jesus to Priest Ottavio Michelini, November 12, 1978
I am not quoting this to negate what you have quoted from Fr.Ottavio Michelini, but maybe to get a perspective of the early church:

I, Lebbaeus (Thaddeus) make a constitution in regard to an exorcist.

An exorcist is not ordained. For it is a trial of voluntary goodness, and of God through Christ by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. For he who has received the gift of healing is declared by revelation from God, the grace which is in him being manifest to all.
But if there be occasion for him, let him be ordained a bishop, or a presbyter, or a deacon.
(The Constitutions of the Apostles, Book VIII, Section III, chapter XXVI)

God’s peace be with you

A life of prayer and a life of the spirit, nurtured by the Sacraments of Confession and Communion.

In nomine Patri et Filius et Spiritui Sancto, amen.

Pater noster qui est in caeli…

Ave Maria Gratia Plena, Dominus tecum…

Sancte Michael Archangele, defendenos in proelio contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli, esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus suplices deprecamur, tuque princeps militae celestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute in infernum detrude, amen.

In nomine Iesu, si es hic, manifesta te.
In nomine Iesu, dic nomen tuum.
In nomine Iesu, exorcizo te.

Vade retro Satana, non suade mihi vana.
Sunt mala quae libas, ipse venea bibas.
Crux sacra sit mihi lux, nunquam draco sit mihi dux.

Prayers of liberation are done to the specific healing needs of the patient-abuse, violence, rape, various kinds of evil, curses etc.

Prayer and fasting.

Hello!

I am a lay person and I am praying the powerful prayer of exorcism (the long version) written by Pope Leo XIII every day. There are certain IMPORTANT things which you need to do first. Please send me an email and I will show you exactly what to do. Please Do Not Be Frightened. The Omnipotent Almighty God is with you. truc@cox.net

I have to agree with everyone here and say the Prayer to ST.Michael is better , that being said, under no surcumstances unless you are clergy it’s fine but if you are not and you do say that, your putting yourself and those around you by retaliating, as it will only anger them further! I have seen How the demonic work and it is not pretty.
In my life time up and until now. I Am both a Paranormal Investigator and Physical/Psychic/Medium d and also a Demonologist Historian and I put out all I research I have done myself and I find it helpful as well as many of my respected peers in this field some who are well know clergy that help out other teams and Demonlogists as well.
But I find the prayer to St.Michael it perfect as well as having your home blessed , I myself do both and i wear my ST.Michael and benedictine medals. 🙂

Hi, I have a similar question…
Several months ago, I did a type of self-excorcism(prayers to remove negative spiritual attachments). I remember hearing that it may be dangerous for a non-professional to try to remove negative spirits. However, I went on ahead did the prayers to unbind negative spirits that may be near or attached to me.
About a week after this removal prayer, I got a terrible stomach problem that lasted for about 1 month(I was terribly sick). I thought that that was kind of weird because I rarely get sick. Then after I got better, I developed a terrible skin problem(I thought it was scabies but it seems like a severe rash and this lasted about 2 months). I had to go to the hospital for treatment.
Then few weeks I got healed from my skin problem, I developed colonitis and ovarian cyst that burst and had to be hospitalized. I was sick for about 2 months.
I have been thinking if my prayer of trying to remove negative spirits may be the cause of my problems. I have been having a lot of bad things happening continuously, therefore, does anyone know of any type of prayers or people that I can see for protection?
Even now, I really do not know what is going on/has been going on(i.e., I am not sure if my illnesses are connected to my spirit removal prayers) but I would like your advice on what I should do.
