I’ve been reading a lot of threads on the non catholic board - until a very very short while ago I wasn’t sure there was a God but now I am.

There seems to be a lot of discussioin about Mary as the Mother of God, whether she is a co-redeemer, if she stayed a virgin, if she had more children, and so on and if any of this can be found in the Bible, and if not, then the inference is it is man made tradition and therefore irrelevant, if not borderline idolatry. That’s my understanding of the two camps anyhow.

A lot of these discussions, even though I read them, go right over my head.

So I thought I would just share with you my actual experience of Mary, without any theology or scripture or tradition or anything else attached.

It’s just a few simple sentences of what actually, really, happened to me since comming onto these boards.

I did not know if there was a God.

I did not subscribe to the notion of sin.

I did not pray, go to church or anything else - why would I?

I believed we are all the architects of our own life.

I believed when we die - thats it! Game over.

A woman, who I never met before and don’t know, gave me a card with The Magnificat on it.

I read it, and it spoke to me.

I heard the words ‘‘Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus’’ shortly afterwards.

This made me collapse and crumble. I SAW and FELT just how bad I was, had been, and the effects of my sinfullness on others. (it’s to do with abortion and the woman’s right to chose but I won’t bore you with details here)

It was like comming home to your mother, when you have been as bad as bad can be, and she holds you, and in that embrace, all you feel is love. No admonition, no scolding, no lecture on how bad you are and what a disappointment you are, no threats, no lectures, just a total and all consuming embrace of unconditional love.

And because of this I could see so clearly my sinfullness and badness and without hearing or feeling a word of admonition, I knew what I had to do - and I did it.

That’s why, reading the threads on co-redeemer - I have no issue with this concept. I wasn’t praying to God, I wasn’t praying to Jesus, I wasn’t praying to the Holy Ghost. I wasn’t praying at all.

But a woman came into my life, and She broke me, and made me look at the life I was living and the work I was doing, and I knew I had to stop. And I did. Where did I get the courage and strength to do it. From that Embrace !

My newly found belief in God has come through experiencing His Mother Mary.

If that’s what people mean by co-redeeming - then Mary is indeed co-redeemer with her son, Jesus.

That’s all.

Nothing profound or intellectually challenging. I have no Bible quotes or anything else to give you.

All I have to share is what has just happened to me, by God working through his Mother Mary.

Bruxilda.

This is so inspiring and encouraging! I received such a pleasant rush while reading this! Thank you for sharing!

May God continue to bless you in such profound and real ways!

Mother Mary, please never stop praying for this child of God!

May the Blessed Virgin Mary continue to guide you to His Son, Jesus!

For she has said in the Magnificat:
He has scattered the proud-hearted, He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; He has filled the hungry with good things, sent the rich away empty.
And because of this I could see so clearly my sinfullness and badness and without hearing or feeling a word of admonition, I knew what I had to do - and I did it.
What you have recognized is very, very, very profound - it is by grace of God. Please continue to pray and ask Mother Mary to pray to the Lord to guide you and to help you see the way He sees you - through this you will grow spiritually.

Your life is changing and thank you for sharing this. I means a lot to many of us.

You are in my prayer.

Your story brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Dear Bruxilda,
we are privileged to know something of your spirit and to share in something of the new life and the embracing love that God is giving you. I believe He will do much good through you. As Jesus hung on the cross, he said to John, (to us) of His own mother, “Behold your mother” and thus He gave her to us as mother. It seems that Jesus has effectively said to you personally…'here is my mother for your own, Bruxilda".

God bless you, Trishie

Wrapped in her mantle of motherhood, Mary brings many souls before her Son. She is the example of the perfect disciple.

Amen to you, for God does wonderous things and His plan for you has just begun. Thank you for sharing the beginning of you call.

WOW…inspiring.

I am a cradle Catholic with some time away but back now. My parents are Catholic converts but have since fallen away. I’d like to share my own little recent tale if I may.

E-mail 1: (me to my mom)
I love you more than life itself!!! I love my wife just as much though I may not be the perfect person and I live with her everyday so take it for what it is worth.

Yes, she is still mad and not talking to me. I am doing my best and your preaching to me is never thought of as preaching but wisdom to be practiced.

Love A

E-mail 2 (next day): (me to my mom)
Thank you and the Angels you send. They work beautifully as always. All is well.

E-mail 3: (my mom to me)
Since you were the littlest little boy, I have asked Mary to help me help you. She has never failed us. And of course, I ask the angels to back her up.
Nothing could have made me happier. Nothing. I love you both very much.

Thank you for your story.

Your story brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
Mine too. :crying:

Thank you Jesus for giving us your dear Mother. This world can be so dark and lonely, and then there she is, wrapping her arms around us and leading us straight to You.

God bless you, agnostic. (I really really think you need a new name! 😉 )

God is the Alpha & the Omega, the beginning and the end.

How can He then have a mother???

Mary is a servant of God, a sinner and she prayed feverishly WITH the other disciples after the crucifixion, NOT FOR the others.

‘I am the Truth, the Way and the Life. No man goes to the Father except through me’ - Jesus.

Is it …

1 : GOD ← JESUS ← MAN

OR

2 : GOD ← JESUS ← MARY ← MAN

BUT Jesus said ‘Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’

Jesus never said ‘Go to Mary’.

OR

3 : GOD ← MARY ← JESUS ← MAN

BUT the Bible says “1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,”

In other words, Structure 2 and Structure 3 is WRONG.

jesus had a human element. jesus is god. god is jesus. thus mary is the mother of god. as the OP said, i have no scripture either. i do have, however, the 2000 years of tradition, and devotion to mary, and the saints, and the acceptance of their titles.

That’s why the error must be highlighted. Jesus is the name of the flesh that God used for His Spirit while He was on earth. God does not have a mother since He is already the beginning & the Alpha.

You fellas are insulting God with your nonsensical claims.

Again…Is it …

No, we’re not. Its your myopic view of reality that taints and distorts your perception of reality.😛
RobHom, choose ONE.

BUT the Bible says “1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,”

Meaning, Mary is out of place there.

My take? : Structure 2 and Structure 3 is clearly WRONG.

I only hope that when you stand before the Implacable Judge, that Mary the Blessed Mother of God will intercede for you and that her Son will forgive the insults that you have heaped on His Mother. But frankly, I would not want to be in your shoes.

There NEVER was any Mary in the puzzle. The purpose of inserting a person in between God and Man besides Jesus is an act of blasphemy that divorces Man FROM God.

By so doing, there becomes opportunities to insert secular works into the system, thereby violating the perfect will of God.

God loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. And instead of letting the two come together, evil men have resorted to inserting 3rd and 4th parties into the picture for gain. The punishment for these shall be so great that no eyes shall ever again see.

Peace Truthfaithlove!

Please send your views to a new thread topic.
Please let this person have this thread for the intended purpose.

Please rejoice that a non-believer has found God because of the mysterious ways God works in our lives.

Please do not try to bring down their new found faith in God. They were trying to express how they found a new sense of purpose in their life and you are trying to belittle their experience.

We all like to discuss the topic you are presenting, we have done it a multitude of times on this forum, I just ask that you make a new topic to do so with.

Be happy that a non-believer now believes in Jesus Christ!

Thank you!

Peace!

Gee…another whizkid who knows more than the Early Church Fathers and all the theologians prior to the reformation and many after…wow:rolleyes:

Oh, you mean like “sola scriptura” and all those other “solas”, the tulip thinging, and tons of other man-made things y’all have come up with???

My friend…it sounds like you have some issues to work out. Here is not the place to vent your spleen.

Keep in mind…you tread a narrow path. One of the rules of thes forums is that YOU respect the Catholic faith.

That’s why the error must be highlighted. Jesus is the name of the flesh that God used for His Spirit while He was on earth. God does not have a mother since He is already the beginning & the Alpha.
God does not have a mother in the sense of an origin, of course. He is eternal and before everything else. You won’t get any disagreement from Catholics on that.

However, by virtue of His incarnation as Jesus, God chose to have a human mother. The divine nature was inextricably united to a human soul and body, and that individual was conceived, gestated, and born like the rest of us. Thus, God truly experienced birth from a human woman, and therefore has a mother.

To say otherwise is to draw an unjustified line between the humanity and divinity of Jesus.
You fellas are insulting God with your nonsensical claims.
On the contrary, we are upholding the true union of the divine and human in Jesus Christ by asserting that the same eternal God who made the universe was, within time, born of a human woman and therefore has a mother.
Again…Is it …
1 : GOD ← JESUS ← MAN
2 : GOD ← JESUS ← MARY ← MAN
Number 1, of course. Mary is one of us, so she falls in the “Man” category as a member of the Bride. But of course, like all the rest of us, she prays both with and for her brothers and sisters who are still on the journey.
BUT Jesus said ‘Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’
Jesus never said ‘Go to Mary’. He clearly said ‘Come unto ME
Amen. To seek Mary in place of Jesus would be both foolish and blasphemous. Happily, that is not the Catholic way. Our goal is Jesus. Mary is merely one possible source of assistance along the way.
3 : GOD ← MARY ← JESUS ← MAN
No, that one doesn’t really make sense.
BUT the Bible says “1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,”
Amen. One who stands between God and Man as both. But Jesus’ unique mediatorship does not forbid His followers to pray with and for one another. Mary and the other heavenly saints are still Christians, part of the Body of Christ, inextricably united to those of us still on earth. Thus we ask them to pray for us, for “the prayer of a righteous man availeth much,” and they are now truly righteous before God.
In other words, Structure 2 and Structure 3 is WRONG.
No argument here. If you come across a group that teaches Structure 2 or Structure 3, we Catholics will happily join you in explaining to them their error.
