Hi guys,

I used to go to church regularly and say the rosary etc. but then when I went to University I fell away from the church. This is now about 10 years later and wondering if I can still come back and do a confession and come back to the church? I am not sure why I fell away in the first place and probably just got caught up in life. Is it Ok to come or is it not OK as I did believe and still got drawn away? This concerns me and stresses me out that maybe God will not forgive me because I did believe but just kind of fell away.

Thanks!

God is always waiting to show us his mercy. The only sin which isn’t forgivable is the one we won’t confess. Go to confession.

Welcome back.

Always remember that we serve a loving GOD and He longs for your return. Rest assured, He’ll welcome you with open arms.

Nothing more to add to the above, but go!!! The stress, worry, and hesitation will be gone.

Sorry I am not good at communicating my feelings properly. I guess why I am asking is because I thought there was a passage about people who turn away can not come back? Maybe I read it online somewhere and not in the bible. Please clear this up for me. I have not being good at the last few years to say the least 😦

St. Ignatius says that’s the tactic of the Enemy. The devil doesn’t want you to come home. God does want you to come home.

Pray and find a good Catholic priest who can help you.

That’s not true! Our GOD is a forgiving GOD, and no sins are unpardonable for Him. Jesus, Himself, even said to forgive others unconditionally. Just take the parable of “The Prodigal Son” as an example, and you’ll know what I mean. May the Holy Spirit enlighten you on this matter and lead you back to the Church. GOD is waiting for you. Pax!

Remember the parable of the Prodigal Son? His father didn’t just let him come back; he ran to meet his son on the way!
Our Father loves you. Come home.

You can ALWAYS come back to the Church. And even better, she’s still willing to have you!

Although a Catholic can cease practicing the faith for a time, through the sacrament of penance one can begin again.

Catechism
1455 The confession (or disclosure) of sins, even from a simply human point of view, frees us and facilitates our reconciliation with others. Through such an admission man looks squarely at the sins he is guilty of, takes responsibility for them, and thereby opens himself again to God and to the communion of the Church in order to make a new future possible.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. It is very encouraging! I need to do some soul searching and get my life togther 🙂

Obviously you can.
What happened to you happened to 90% of us at some point in our lives.

“Can I still come back to the church?” Short answer, yes.

The word was only used once in the thread so far, compared to “confess” or “confession” five times at this writing, “reconciliation.” That’s what you want to do. That’s what confession is.

You’re good, come on back.

Those passages refer to obstinate sinners who don’t want to repent. The Enemy will use every trick in his infernal arsenal to make you doubt the mercy of God and postpone your coming home.

I know because there were many times in my life that I felt the same way.

If you once prayed the Rosary, start praying it again and ask Our Lady to help you. She wants you to come home too!
