I believe a have a hygiene problem, and also bad breath. Everyone is always coffing at me, and sometimes my sister gags. People have even left Mass because of me. I know it’s me. Can I stop attending Mass if I’m really disturbing people?

I would encourage you to talk to your pastor and your doctor. We cannot give you an answer on whether or not you should attend/not attend Mass. Your pastor can dispense you.

I agree with 1ke. Go see a doctor and talk to a priest about it. Hopefully, the doctor can help you so that you can continue to hear Mass.

Not only Mass but isn’t there a concern at school or at work? Just curious.

I think this is more of a “should I see a doctor?” question than a “should I stop attending Mass” question. If your breath is that bad, then you also are seeing your life impacted at work, when dating (or in your marriage), with friends, etc.

Bad breath can do more than impact your worship, social and professional life. It can be a result of bad health. You may have something serious going on. It could be anything from tooth decay to acid reflux (which can cause esophageal cancer), if you still have your tonsils you may have tonsil stones which are incredibly foul (I had them before I had my tonsils removed, so I know from experience). Please see a doctor.

No, it’s not a reason to stop going to Mass, but it is a reason to see a dentist and a doctor. A foul odor indicates the presence of bacteria. You might just need a good tooth cleaning or need some teeth pulled (expensive!), or you could have GERD, infected tonsils, or cancer. Please see a doctor and a dentist. Get yourself healthy, and then go to Mass and thank God.
