I was wondering how to dispose of this Missal. When I was young I don’t think it was permitted, they usually burned them I believe. My mother didn’t throw it away so obviously she didn’t feel it was right.
Thanks:p

If there is a Latin Mass community near you, you might consider donating it. They often fetch good money on eBay from collectors too. 🙂 Otherwise, burn or bury. Don’t throw it in the trash.

Is recycling an option? 🤷

You could send it to me if you want! PM me! 😃

I collect these types of things. 🙂

Do you mean putting it into a recylcing bin to be mashed up for pulp? I don’t think so. Missals are sacramentals, like Rosaries or Scapulars. They should be disposed of reverently.

'64 is actually an interesting year for Missals I’m sure. It was right at the beginning of the changes to the Mass yet does not quite contain the order of the Mass as we know it today in the Ordinary Form. I’d hold onto it myself for historical purposes.

Ask your priest what the custom is in your area. They might collect items and dispose of them all at once in a sacred manner. Maybe it isn’t sacred anymore.

I think you are confusing Sacramentals with blessed objects. Sacramentals don’t lose that designation.

What would be a blessed object that CAN lose its sacredness?
A house, for example, can be blessed but once it is sold, it is no longer blessed. Sacramentals, such as Rosaries or Scapulars, can be blessed. If sold, they lose their blessed “status” (for lack of a better term) but are still Sacramentals. A sacred article is still sacred as long as it is recognizable. It may or may not be also a blessed object. A house can be blessed but isn’t a sacramental. A Rosary is a Sacramental that may or may not be blessed.

Thank you everyone for your comments, they have been quite helpful. I will hang on to it and talk to my priest. It won’t be any use on ebay as my brother made sure everyone knew it belonged to him and signed it with magic marker lol. Thanks again and God bless

There was a fraternity/order/society in Scranton that was pushing the 1964-5 Missal. However, they are now defunct.
