Can I truly be saved, or is it too late?

Hi all. I need some advice.

I was raised Roman Catholic, but I don’t think I was every really ‘in to’ it, especially the phase of my life 5-6 years ago when I decided that the Lord wasn’t real. There was also a year or so of my life of complete darkness and sin, alcoholism, depression, men and women – I seriously messed up.

I’ve been thinking a lot about faith for a while now, and started going to mass last week. I just came from my second mass, where in the priest’s homily he talked about the Euchurest, and said that if we hadn’t confessed and we weren’t clean that we shouldn’t receive it, just come up to him with our arms crossed on our chests and he would bless us.

I didn’t receive the Euchurest and was blessed, but I have so much in my past to confess to, including a lot of things that I really don’t feel I will be forgiven for, that I’m not sure I’ll ever feel worthy of receiving the body and blood of Christ.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is, is there a point where a person is just too late, when they are out of the Lord’s good graces and in a place of no return? I’m really hoping not… I intend on going to confession next weekend, and I have been living a good, catholic life since January or so of this year, minus one incident falling off the wagon Easter morning, and everyday I feel I’m becoming stronger and stronger against more and more sins, and the ones (one, really) I wasn’t ready to give up I’ve made up my mind to completely do away with in my life.

Sorry for the long post, but is there any possibility I can be saved? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Love and God bless,
-V

no, not as long as they still live and breathe, and if you are posting here that is you, go to confession for the most awesome explosion of grace you can imagine, that’s all it takes, and return to the Eucharist.

Welcome home!

Everyone can be saved. Deathbed repentances and conversions are not unheard of!

My dear brother or sister in Christ, by all means you can be saved! No sin is too great for God to forgive and His mercy endures forever! Let Him lift your burden. Release your guilt
to Him. Christ died for our sins. Trust me you are not the only human at Mass. The entire congregation as well as the priest is human and by definition not incapable of sin. God bless you as you continue your walk with Him and may His peace be with you always.

Wow guys, you’re making me tear up. I’ve put so much of my life back together from the darkness it once was, faith is the one thing I felt I was missing but I was so terrified of not having the opportunity to connect with the Lord that I kept putting it off… I’m going to go to confession next week as a start, then set up a talk with the priest in the near future to get some more guidance.

Again, thank you all so much! You give me confidence to continue on this spiritual journey towards happiness with the Lord! 🙂

I’ve been to confession twice, recently, after a lengthy delay (and a mountain of sin), and the relief so much quashes my fear it’s incredible. Good luck! The Lord’s mercy if infinite, so even though I’ve taken up too much of it for me to be comfortable with :o there’ll be the same infinity of mercy for you, I’m sure 👍

Imperfect_still-
and intresting choice of screen names.
The one thing I have had to accept about myself on my journey thus far,
has been the fact that I am not perfect, and I not God and I never will be.
I like to think of myself as imperfect ALWAYS, but trying hard! 😉

I have been here. It’s not a fun place, but I assure you, yes you can be saved.
God loves you, and is just waiting for you to come home.:hug1:
What pulled me out of this place was Henri Nouwen’s book The Return of the Prodigal Son,and a wonderfully patient and kind priest, who was was my Spiritual Director/confessor.
Keep praying, seek reconcilliation with God and the Church so you can partake of the Eucharist. The precious Body & Blood of our Lord will nourish your mind, body and soul,
so that you can become what you receive, leave all you were in the past, in the past, and move on clothed in Christ.

Peace be with you on your journey.

I will pray for you!:gopray2:

Thanks! This is pretty much exactly where I am; it’s wonderful to know that someone else has been here and is able to feel the Lord’s forgiveness and love!!

Thanks! I’m going to check out that book because I need all the help I can get!

You’re all giving me the hope and the courage I need, I appreciate this more than you know! I’m ready for confession on Saturday; I’m going to try not to take too much of the priest’s time but to get out as much as I can, and continue to live a life that I hope Jesus would be proud of 🙂

You are being called to repentance, which is a great grace from God. He has not turned His back on you! Just go to confession and keep going to Mass. I also spent many years away from the faith, and felt the pull of grace to come back to the Church. It is amazing the way God makes things happen to bring us back to the fold. There are so many little things (graces) we can overlook; like what you mentioned about how you have been thinking a lot about the faith lately. That my friend, is your guardian angel whispering in your ear. Don’t ignore it!

I believe you can be saved. I sure pray that you can. I too have need of redemption each and every day…well some days more then others, but that is the Faith and the HOPE that we share in Christ…

The only unforgivable sin is that of despair, believing you cannot be forgiven. Jesus is most merciful. Just ask.

You might try reading a couple of bible passages: Luke13:1-5, Luke19:1-10, and Luke 23: 39-43 (my favorite). Its never too late. Do not despair. Go to confession, Jesus is waiting for you.

Thank our good Lord for the grace he has given you to reform your life. There are so many out there who have committed your same sins (others have committed even worse, others less grave sins) but who are unwilling to return to the narrow path by which we are to be saved. The gift of repentance is not something we can make happen on our own. It depends upon God’s grace by the hands of our Blessed Mother. I highly encourage you to thank both of them and to continue to pray everyday for the graces to live a life more and more in conformity to theirs. God bless you, and please be assured of my prayers for you.
