Unless it is used with a deliberate intention to divine the future, a Magic 8 Ball is a toy that might be likened to a child’s folded-paper fortune-teller. It does not appear that the Magic 8 Ball should be put in the same league as the Ouija board, which is a well-known divination tool that has been misleadingly marketed to children as a board game.
While I don’t recommend giving Magic 8 Balls to impressionable children or to anyone else who may be scandalized or may have weak faith, there is nothing wrong with keeping the Magic 8 Ball you were given as a token of friendship from the person you received it from. Only if that person follows up this gift with a Ouija board or other occult devices should you consider politely informing this person that you have no interest in receiving such items.
