I mean, you can use it, but the Mass structure will be different and the readings will not be correct.

For the Novus Ordo Mass, the Daily Roman Missal is probably the best. It is beautiful, well-crafted, and very, very complete. It even contains the side-by-side Latin, which isn’t required in the Novus Ordo Mass.

You can also look for the St. Joseph’s Missal. There are several versions. There is the Sunday Missal (in hardcover and zipper editions) and two volumes of Daily Missals (in hardcover and zipper editions). The zipper version is small, and is a favorite of many for it’s size. It can easily be slipped into a pocket. Search for missals here:

Vox Clara just met again on March 14. There’s a brief about it on their website. There was also an article saying that they urged the immediate adoption of the new ordinary of the Mass, but that the bishop’s conferences are going to wait for the complete translation of the propers. I can’t find the link off hand. Work does continue, however.

I sometimes use it for the prayers before mass by St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Ambrose, as well as the Leonine prayers that I pray silently after mass as a private devotion.

.From what I know of the TLM vs. the NO, the readings are different, on a different cycle so if you use a TLM Missal at a NO Mass you won’t have the same readings as are being read there i.e. not correct readings. The same would be true if one were to use a NO missal at a TLM - the readings would not be correct.
This does not mean that they are somehow flawed, just not the right ones for that specific Mass.

I attend the TLM, I would be the last one to ever say that.
I meant that the readings are different day by day for the TLM and the Novus Ordo. So, if you try to use a TLM missal at a Novus Ordo, it would be “incorrect” because it would not be the same as the readings at the Novus Ordo.

they are using the cycle of readings that was in effect for the Tridentine Mass, before the revised lectionary we now have, with the 3 year cycle of Sunday readings. Their readings are correct where there is an indult to celebrate the Tridentine Mass, and they are correct to follow that version of the missal for the rubrics and prayers as well. The correct prayers and rubrics for the Mass celebrated by the universal Latin Rite Church is in the current Roman Missal, and the correct readings for Mass are in the current lectionary.What are you saying? I have a Daily Roman Missal that was a gift, but before I got it I simply purchased a St. Joseph annual missal, since I did not want to invest in a permanent missal if a new translation is forthcoming. Either that (it is under $5 for an annual Sunday missal) or a subscription to Magnificat should carry you over until the time is good to purchase a permanent missal.

I highly recommend a subscription to Magnificat. It is a daily missal, but provides so much more. You will get daily prayers drawn from the Liturgy of the Hours, a daily reflection, info on lives of the saints, plus hymns. There is also an article in each publication that provides info on a piece of Christian art.

Gah! How could I forget Magnificat! That’s probably the best idea, actually. It’s a monthly publication that’s like a missalette. It’s small and you can carry it around, and it has reflections on the readings, great art, and many prayers. That really might be the best way to go until the new translation is out, unless you find a used one on ebay or amazon.com.

I have gotten a free sample from them in the past and I decided that I didn’t like the “magazine” feel of the book. I also wouldn’t be able to afford a subscription! I would just rather put the money into a long lasting one-volume book that I can keep indefinitely.

- Will the revisions under way remove the Latin from the Missal? I would like one with Latin in it for the prayers, not just English.
- Does the Sunday Missal have the pictures and prayers and all that extra stuff that the Daily Missal has? I’d like to have that, but I just went for the Daily Missal because I didn’t know if the Sunday Missal had them or not. I don’t attend Mass daily, so I don’t know what to do.

No! If anything, the new Apostolic Exhortation on the Eucharist that came out last week (Sacramentum Caritatis) calls for the integration of MORE Latin. That said… not all Novus Ordo Missals will have the side-by-side Latin, since the Mass is usually said in the vernacular. If you want the Latin too, go with the Daily Roman Missal.
The Sunday Missal will ONLY cover Sundays, and the Daily will ONLY cover weekdays (leaving out Sundays). If you’re looking at the St. Joseph Missals, you usually buy either the Sunday Missal, or the whole set (the Sunday and the two Daily volumes). The most important prayers, pictures, and “extra stuff” will be contained in the Sunday Missal
