I was recently asked by my boyfriend’s family if my daughter and I would like to go on vacation with them for a week. My daughter and I will have our own room in the vacation house. We would be going with my boyfriend, his parents, and two brothers. Would this be acceptable?

As a matter of principle, an unmarried woman visiting her boyfriend’s family overnight, when spending the night in her own room and with his parents as chaperones, is not particularly objectionable. But that assumes that both parties are free to marry, which is unclear in your case. There is also the matter of ordinary prudence in exposing your daughter to your dating life. You do not say how old she is, but if she is 12 or under, I cannot recommend exposing a child to the romantic relationships of his or her parents, especially if the relationship could end at any time. Children need stability in their lives and your daughter must already deal with a single parent home. It might be in her best interests not to introduce her to your boyfriend as your boyfriend unless and until such time as he has committed to becoming her stepfather.
