I should have specified that we’re not talking about legality here, which as readers of this forum know, is not the same as ethics or morality. I’m talking morality. What would God say at the Last Judgment? As the Confiteor says, “…for what I have done and what I have failed to do…” Not inadvertently, but purposefully. If you saw the drowning person and turned your boat in the opposite direction, in my mind at least, you have committed murder. I’m not really concerned in these examples with the legal niceties between manslaughter and murder.A person does not have an affirmative duty to act under the law to rescue anyone
