It simply isn’t the same thing. Sex is not something one chooses. Sex is a gift from God, but more specifically it is a gift from God given for a particular and undeniable purpose: procreation (and unity, though I don’t know if you accept the latter). So rather than being like a child choosing a color it would be like you giving your child whose family cannot afford food 1,000 dollars to get back on their feet. Unfortunately your child has a tendency to spend money on things solely for their pleasure. So when you give them the money you say “I am willing to help you out until you find a job but only spend this on the necessities.” So then your child leaves but decides that the last few months, through no fault of his or her own, has been tough. So instead of spending the money on rent or food he or she spends it on a cruise so that he or she can relax. Now how could you not care that your child deliberately went against your will and abused your gift to pleasure themselves?
It isn’t merely a choice. It is a gift.
I got a bit lost here. Gender identity and sexual orientation are not something one choses, so it seems like you’re saying either they are not gifts from God, or only gifts in certain circumstances, or are gifts which can only be accepted in certain circumstances. The issue is that for a non-Catholic, this business of a “particular and undeniable purpose” is very hard to understand. Is the undeniable purpose of my nose for breathing, smelling roses, or holding up my sunglasses?
Imho one reason why so many people have agreed with gay union is the rather tortuous complexity of the arguments against it, while the case for it is simply that all citizens should be equal before the law.
*Well, I personally believe that some have to struggle for the greater good of the majority. Mentally handicap individuals often cannot drive because it would be dangerous to themselves as well as society. Some people cannot adopt children because they do not have the proper setting to raise children. *
I strongly disagree that any minority must struggle, against their will for “the greater good of the majority”, it just sounds far too socialist and utilitarian.
In any case, how could making gays struggle benefit the majority? Gay people function fully in society, why is there a case for making them struggle any more than making left-handed people struggle?
Aside from that there is also the point I have been arguing. Marriage is a natural institution. It has its natural purpose(s) as I stated before. We do not have the power to change what naturally exists.
I think this has to do with the confusing terms. While religious marriage could be said to exist naturally, civil union and civil marriage cannot, whether applied to straights or gays.
*God cannot change, as if he changes He was not perfect. So as morality is essentially defined as His will, it also cannot change.
Nowhere does it say one must own slaves. Obviously slavery (in the North American way) is immoral, but this could also be seen in relation to being written because of the hardness of their hearts. Christ never said anything resembling owning slaves. Nor did He change the morality of slave owning. *

You are in danger of introducing the strange choice of agreeing to gay union or else following a slippery slope back into owning slaves.
There has been a change in morality, and in some ways it can be seen as different interpretations of who is our neighbor. Leviticus 19:18 says “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. This is the golden rule, but “your people” is interpreted quite narrowly, as can be seen from the law on owning slaves Lev 25:44-46. These days our neighbor can include someone we see in a disaster on the other side of the world.
*While I believe gay sex is sinful and an abuse of the natural gift God gave us, I am not trying to legislate against it. *
I just can’t see any sin.
As to it not applying to women, however, I see a few scenarios. Without being graphic, two homosexual males can have what seems to be intercourse (penetration) while two females can’t, so perhaps it wouldn’t even fall under sex but sexual stimulation, which is still an abuse of God’s gift (much like masturbation is). Or perhaps they are speaking as often done in the old testament: using man in a broader sense but still using man as an example. You would have to ask a biblical scholar or someone else, however. I cannot say for certain.
As far as I know, Mosaic law never mentions masturbation or lesbians, and by “man” the text can’t be including “woman” since it refers to “a man as one does with a woman”.
Maybe it’s a Baptist thing. Here’s a piece of music by Bach which expresses gentleness, freedom, joy, unity, courtesy. Imagine that the band and choir, and Bach himself, are all openly gay. I think it would be a great contradiction to say that diminishes them in any way in the Spirit, or mean they have any special burden.

You didn’t comment on this, but hopefully see my point of view. At any rate, it’s nice for me to talk to someone who doesn’t just bark back.
