I personally know of Witnesses who repeatedly made back-calls on people who made it clear that they were not interested in pursuing study with the JWs. They wouldn’t leave those people alone. This was during the WTS-generated hysteria about the End coming around the mid 1970s and took place in 1974.
The same JWs went to the same people’s house, over and over again even though the householder was clear that they weren’t interested. Go figure.
It’s so true about the JWs not leaving you alone. I told a pioneer I didn’t want her to continue coming to my house but didn’t get the message. She kept on showing up w/her husband, especially during the Christmas holidays. She kept on calling me regardless of me telling her straightfoward I didn’t want to study and that I would never think of becoming a JW. I think what made her stop lookingfor me is: 1. that I moved 20 miles away and 2. that I told them I wasn’t happy DH was reinstated and was only happy because he wanted to be one. But still, it took her at least 5 months to stop.
I always had coffee and cookies ready for when they came, but I got to a point in my life where I couldn’t take any more Catholic bashing, so I asked her to stop coming. I told her I enjoyed her visits and it was wonderful to get to learn the bible and the JWs as the WT teaches it, but that I was still considering myself a Catholic and was very happy to be one. Nothing rude. It’s not in my personality, not in my upbringing.
When we first moved away, DH was in the hospital and I had a couple knock on my door and yes, they were JWs welcoming us to the neighborhood, they noticed we moved in when they saw the Uhaul truck and wanted to invite us over to the KH. I told them very politely I was Catholic and was married to a JW. At first I didn’t mention he was DF’d then. They asked if I would be interested in learning about the bible and told them I had studied w/a pioneer for a long time but stopped because I couldn’t take it any more. DH and I had too many arguments because of the differences in beliefs. Then the husband asked how we dealt w/the religion differences, and said plain and simple, we don’t talk about it any more. Then I let them know he was DF, then excused themselves and left. Haven’t been visited since then.
Still, even though I am an exJW, I don’t believe in being rude to them when they come to the door. I am polite and courteous, but I inform them that I am Catholic and have no intention of ever converting to anything else.
I don’t tell them I am an exJW, because I regard it as none of their business.
I would NEVER be rude to anyone who knocks on my door. As I mentioned above, I waited w/hot coffee and cookies for them to invite them in, but I haven’t been visited. Now, I don’t know how we’d have a conversation. Before I wouldn’t say much about the Catholic bashing, but now that I know so much more, well, I’m afraid to get in an argument w/them. That is why DH and I made a deal that God will be part of our marriage, but not religion. Keeping it simple and praying together.
I wonder why they don’t come to my door any more???

DH is reinstated and is attending the local KH, rarely attending but his JW card was already sent to the elders of the KH.
However, I do want to point out that I do feel ashamed at people who treat JWs or Mormons the way Steve mentioned or in any other bad way, as a matter of fact. I do feel horribly. That is not a Christian way of acting. Right after DH was reinstated, he went to preach (he hasn’t done it since that first wk) but he was verbally assaulted

. He is a person, he loves God, why treat him this way? It broke my heart to hear that one person yelled at them many things including, “Get a job you lazy %**^$ people. That’ll give you something better to do than bother the @*$^(% of people”. That is the opposite of being a Christian.
