Can kids play soccer on Sundays?

My wife and I are devout Catholics. We have or shall I say I have struggled with wether it is ok for our kids to participate in soccer matches that at scheduled for Sundays. This only happens on games rescheduled due to weather or tournaments that end on Sunday. My wife says no because it is the Lord’s day and is unnecessary. My argument is that it is fun and enjoyable to watch him play.
Does the church have teaching on if it is permissible?
