Can Laws Against Polygamy Stand In Modern Society?

I wouldn’t call it marriage. It is a compromise between us and those who want to enter into contracted relationships and want them to be identical to a true marriage. At least the parties have legal protection.

If this is the compromise we need to yield to in order to protect true marriage, then this is what we will have to do.

If we legally call gay unions “marriage,” then polygamous unions will also have to be “marriage,” including those spanning generations of the same family.

As I said, calling it something other than a “waterfall” won’t prevent you from being swept over if you keep on going downstream.

Here in Massachusetts children are being inculcated with the belief that “marriage” is “marriage” (as defined by the Commonwealth) and that same sex unions are to be given the same respect that opposite sex unions are given. The notion of marriage as a sacrament has no place in secular society. This is the danger we confront in a culture which has rejected God. There is no reason, in the law, that polygamy cannot be legal. Tragically, marriage is whatever the legislature or the courts say it is. I believe that marriage among multiple partners will shortly be legal in many jurisdictions

How can it not be? As I said, if marriage between two people of the same sex is made legal, how can marriage among a half-dozen people of assorted sexes be illegal.
