Hi,

I was just wondering if laypeople can teach at theological seminaries or do you have to be clergy to teach at Catholic seminaries?

I only had one professor at my local school of theology that was a member of the clergy. He was my NT prof. There are a couple of “adjunct” professors that teach Canon Law who are priests, but that’s about it.

Oh, and the President is an SSJ. Actually, there is more “laity” in the school than there is clergy.

As long as you have the appropriate degrees you are able to teach. Our seminary has two full time professors who are lay. Others are adjuncts.
