I am a fan of the band seether, but I w as looking at their music on youtube, and I saw a version that somebody modified and marked as “demonic” I got curious and clicked on it, the voice was low and raspy, that’s all I stayed around for, I clicked on it of it but now I feel guilty, did I sin? Please give me a peace of mind.😊 sorry if this doesn’t fit here.

You have asked to questions. I don’t know anything about the music you refer to. Somebody labeling it demonic is just somebody’s opinion. You saw it and for some reason left it. I don’t see that’s a sin unless it influences your future thoughts or actions.

The other question in the title, can music possess us – my opinion – no, not under any circumstances unless you submit your will to its message.

But, I hope you get an answer from somebody who knows more about this music that you refer to.

I don’t think it can; it isn’t alive. But it can subtly affect your mind.

I have a different opinion. I think music can possess you. I would not dare sing satanic chants.

+1 on this. I don’t think a song, by itself, can cause a “possession” (I assume the OP means a demonic possession). However, the lyrics and even the rhythm and melody of songs can influence our thoughts and emotions. Sometimes this influence is simply to get the listener “hooked” (a “catchy” song), but at other times, it is less benign.

On the other hand, I certainly do not subscribe to that “Rock Music Is The God of the Wasteland” garbage or whatever name it goes by these days. There is good and bad music, just as there are good and bad books. Discernment is the key.

(with the exception of gangsta rap and Madonna and her acolytes - Lady Gaga and such. Such music is truly the spawn of Asmodeus. :p)

I like a few songs by Seether, too! If you like them, check out Skillet, which is a Christian rock/metal band (lighter, but good).

I haven’t considered it demonic, or at least the songs I’ve heard.

Are you scrupulous? I wouldn’t say that you sinned, or have anything to feel guilty about. Even if it was demonic (which I wouldn’t know), if it was an accident that you listened to it without believing it to be a sin, it wouldn’t be.

No, music cannot possess you. Do you believe in Christ? Are you a Christian? Temporarily hearing music, even if it had a satanic message will not cause you harm if you are in Christ. Music can only influence you and definitely poison your mind if it is bad. Talk to someone who listens to gangster rap all the time. Every other word they say is a cuss word and they cannot help cussing so much because they let that music poison their minds. But even that is not anywhere near “possession” it is just low class. I do not see how what you did could have been a sin. Certainly not a mortal sin but talk to a priest about this if it really bothers you.

“Possession” has a very specific meaning in mystical and ascetical theology. Music, in itself and as such, cannot possess a human being because music lacks individuated intellect and will – and that at a level preternatural to a human being. Music can certainly exercise influence over a person’s thoughts or emotions or even produce physiological effect(s) by various causes. That is radically and essentially distinct from possession.

Possess you ?
Code:
As in it takes control of your mind and actions ?
Short answer Nope,
Code:
Did you Commit sin ?
I’m no Authority on Sin, personally I think,Nope

You might admire the music of a band, that has amazeing Rythem ,like say,E L O
That kind of thing can have a really positive effect on your mood,
My Step Daughter has what I Call Devil music, can’t understand a word the Growl ,
Just Plain Rubbish, perhaps on some minds it could maybe have some negative affect,
Like getting a Migraine headache , I don’t listen long enough,

Hope you listen to good music, check out 70’s music like Electric Light Orchestra ,
Bee Gees , Chicago etc, and forget this other stuff they call music, and no sins coming your way

No, sampling something is NOT the same
as being “taken over” by it, just like one can
have one cigarette and not become addicted.

There has been much publicity over the last several years concerning certain lyrics in rap and possibly hip-hop that are explicit as to violence against women specifically, violence against police as well. I would think continued exposure to all that would certainly desensitize one regrading such acts. That may not be “possession” as such but surely an influence on behavior.
