Michael,

Why did Christ refer to Himself as the Son of Man more often than He did, Son of God? Do you know?
I’m not Michael…but I believe “Son of Man” is a title used through out scripture to denote one calling themselves…“human”…or a “son of Adam”…no divinity is associated with the title “Son of Man”…it also is used in the OT.

“Son of God” is also a title…and doesn’t necessarily denote divinity either. The gospel writers may have been more partial to one title than the other and are used by the various gospel writers…some use the term more than others.

it’s up to god to deside thier destiny not us

islam taught many good things about being a good person but it has also very dark side with alot of hate to others

i was former muslim so when i dont like the true of islam it does not mean i hate muslims

let me tell you this

1-the islamic religion say jesus was prophet and the gospel was book came with jesus from heaven (like the quran)

well we know that the gospel means the good news and jesus was not walking with a book and the gospels were written years after christ rose from the death so that means mohammed was not knowing the christian faith and dont know what is the gospel.

moreover, they dont understand why god send his son and why he(jesus) is the waiting messiah who the god talk about him in the old testment as the king

they will say god dont have a son

they will call him messiah with out knowing what is the meaning of that word

2- all people who do not accept mohammed will go to hell because to be muslim you need to say i believe in one god and mohamed his prophet if you believe in god without mohammed than you are not save according to thier dogma

3-christians and jews are the son of pigs and monkeys according to quran and hadith and some islamic scholars !!

now that is very strong language !!

and to be honest not all muslim say that but many who use the hate language will use it and they will say that is allah and mohamed words and you cant reject it

there are passages that call us the people of the book and there are others call us infidel

4-Crucifixion of Jesus was never happen, in matter of fact judas was crucified and christians are worshiping judas

5- christians are worshiping 3 gods the father , the mother , the son

and the holy spirit is angel gabriel not god

you can see that mohamed did not understand the holy trinity by saying we are worshiping mary as god and jesus as another god and the father as a third one

finally you can find many of thier belifes come from the old christians Heresy and Infancy Gospels that are not in the new testment

so there is big diffrent between islam and christianity about jesus

christianity all belifes based on jesus who filful the prophecies in the old testment

and islam whole idea is about jesus is not the son of god and that’s why you will find the word jesus in quran more than the word mohammed

i just want to share with you this fact

God has already judged the heart of man. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
Ah, proof-texting. Do you also believe that God lacks omniscience because God says “who can know it?”

Let us expand your verse a little.
More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it? 10 I, the LORD, alone probe the mind and test the heart, To reward everyone according to his ways, according to the merit of his deeds.
Nothing in this that exempts Muslims from the “anyone” who can be rewarded according to his deeds. Yes, the human hear is wicked, and that wickedness knows no remedy. This does not translate to total depravity, a position rejected by both the Catholic Church and most Protestants.

I too have a problem with the inclusivist teaching of the Catholic Church about Muslims although i accept and will defend it because the CCC states it.

He who rejects me, on the last days i will reject him. Is not this passage a clear enough statement that if you know Christ (as the Muslims do) but reject him as Christ/God, you will be rejected?

any thoughts?

I too have dwelled on this often. As the human race we must allow all their own choice of religion/faith. Within that framework we must find peace and its the “first” order for mankind to continue to exist. All must do this and we have no-choice in the Kingdom of God. Nothing else will work nor has it ever. The only solution is God/Christ, and the only thing that has ever worked is God.

Anything that continues to lead to human destruction through worldly empires and their rule is not of God. Politics is not Gods agenda. Earth through politics and wordly empires which seperate man to class and slavery is not of Gods Will. Its the choice of Free Will which continues to confront man. Man has continued since Adam and Eve to refuse to come into communion with God. How long must he be the God of Mercy and wait? God himself came here as a human man in Christ, “again”. And man still refuse’s to come to communion with God. How long before he passes judgement?

Nobody goes to the Father {God} but through the Son {Jesus Christ}. And then to carry the message to another point is to realize we have a specific purpose here on Earth. And its not political or of this world. The Christian Faith is here to co-redeem through Christ…period. Effectively this cannot be done till man clearly understands violence is a tool of the ignorant which only can lead to temporary materialistic achievment then ulimately to destruction.

Whats worked aside form Christianity? Communism, Atheism, Marxism, Nazism? All these plus others which continue to show-up with new disguise’s and new players with new names. Same illusion’s all which leads to Hell.

The only Heaven is the one in Gods Bible, and the only ones going there are those who consecrated their lives to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through Baptism. The choice here on earth through free-will could be simple or complex. that my brothers and sisters is up to you and I and every one of us.

The process is not simple and different faiths and religions exist. 2500 or so aside from Islam and Christology. We must all put our petty differences aside of race, social and ethnic background, stop butchering and killing one another. Allow man to understand his own learned behaviors and petty evils. And allow peace to work, give peace a chance. Through Peace, the TRUE GOD will prevail and will be known. If that is Islam and Allah than let it be…if that is Jesus Christ and God then it will be. But nothing will be but death and destruction on this current path. So what are we doing:shrug:

I saw a program on TV…a hidden camera…Saudi women explaining the mosque to non-Muslims …when the non-Muslims left, their attitude came out…this is why mainland America is very suspicious about Islam because our introduction to it and to learn more about it was initiated on September 11…

I met a Somali woman, a Muslim, here in town…we became friends. I gave her a holy card that had a prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus…we talked and I shared with her the 10 commandments from the Old Testament. Then I asked her how her community felt with her living on the other side of town and she is a taxi cab driver. She said her husband is in Somalia, but I wondered about that, thinking he could have been a batterer. She has their daughter with her…

When we spoke of Muslim jihadist behavior against non-Muslims, she told me that most Muslims know in their heart that is wrong to mistreat others.

We as Catholics believe our immortal souls have a conscience and one of the factors verifying we were made in the image of God. Our God given conscience has God’s law written in our souls and hearts. I remember as a preschool child doing something wrong, and then having this affect over my whole being that it was wrong. I felt ashamed. I tend to believe that most Muslims – when they are away from imams teaching such condemning language against non-Muslims find in peaceful moments a small voice in their hearts disagreeing …

So if a Muslim, in spite of his indoctrination, refuses to listen to the voice of God…as a gentle whisper in his soul…and chooses to hate and kill, then he is not walking on the path to salvation.

I really like the image of God coming in the Old Testament… as a gentle breeze. I pray and look outside and sometimes see the breeze beginning to move through the branches and leaves…and it is like a meditative help…to be that more quiet…reflect on the Word of God and try to hear His sweet, small quiet voice deep within.

There are Muslims coming to God in extraordinary means…there are many wanting to learn more about Christianity in Iran.

Keep praying for the Muslims that they will come to the truth of Jesus Christ.

So…Micheal and Publisher…why then, did Jesus call Himself the Son of Man…in the meantime I am still trying with limited time to find that reflection by Fr Rohr…

Well, I beleive after much study on the matter…it was the gospel writers in their need to draw Hebrew scripture parallels to the life of Jesus of Nazareth by “mytholigizing” his life to an extent. Do I believe the events of the nativitiy are historical blow by blow accounts? No…each of the respective writers wove a story of Jesus birth to somehow get him to Bethlehem…neither accounts is historically accurate as I believe Jesus was born in Nazareth as there was no need for Joseph to register in Bethlehem…you most likely disagree…

I don’t know if Jesus refered to himself as “Son of Man”…a “messianic” title some think…but also means “human one”…a very human “messiah”…the full doctrine of his divinity had not yet been developed fully when the synoptics were penned.

Personally I think we should worry less about what religious background is going to get into heaven and pray for everyone to get into heaven. There is more people moving away from God and it’s time we start spreading the teachings of the truth. God wants us all with him.

Thanks, Publisher for clarifying…

I think Christ calling himself the Son of Man more than the Son of God is an overture that we have in front of us a much greater participation in His spiritual life than we realize.

If you read the Catechism it speaks in guarded tones about salvation of those in ignorance. One can take a less inclusive position and still be in sync with a permissible Catholic Church. I take a more hopeful position, but it is not the only possible one. The fact is, we do not know a lot about the judgment seat of God. There are myriads of people who never accepted, or rejected Christ.

Here is the problem with determining who is in heaven and who is not: we make that judgment based on our understanding of God. See the problem yet?

We have an understanding of God and His will, but we know it is impossible for us to actually understand His ways. So how then can we judge others?

I choose not to say who will be in Heaven because that is entirely up to God.

I agree with you, but I think the issue not Heaven itself but how long someone might stay in purgatory and which religion shorten your stay there to null…

Sam…you are following the Holy Spirit in your search for the true faith.

You are growing in self-knowledge…which is the beginning of true wisdom…Who God is and who we are not.

There is no sin or inclination to sin in heaven because God has become all…there is no carnal need in heaven…but glory.

Can Muslims, Hindus and people of other various faith traditions go to heaven so long as they live in accordance to their faith with sincerity and devotion? Would the fact that many people of the Islamic faith hold Mary with high regard help them at the time of their death?

:gopray2:
it is written that those who seek God with all their heart, will find him. how can you know, that a person of one of these faiths, who diligently and faithfully sought God throughout their whole lives will miss the boat. what if Christ, at the moment of their deaths appeared to them and gave them the choice? are you stating that 6 million Jews who were faithful to the faith God entrusted to them and were murdered for it, are in hell, because they did not agree that Christ was the Son of God? i gonna let God be the judge. many who are part of other faiths are God fearing individuals. tell me. where is the sinners prayer found in the bible, and where is it written that one must accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior? Peace :signofcross: ooh, and the fact that they hold Mary in such high reguard, shows they are worlds ahead of most protestants in this area. 😃

It’s true that God desires all mankind to be saved. But the Bible doesn’t say that having Abraham’s faith is sufficient. If Abraham’s faith was sufficient, then Christ’s death was unnecessary. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only way, and without belief in Him one is condemned.

It would seem to me that non-christians can be saved only if they abandon their various religious systems and become true believers in Christ.

"Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." (John 3:18)

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
(John 14:6)

What did Jesus actually mean by all of this? Does the Catechism interpret this to mean that belief in Christ is not necessarily a requirement for entry to heaven?
so you would say that that they should abandon their various religious systems and become…CATHOLIC? 😉 will be happy to welcome you in at anytime my friend…Peace to you and yours. 🙂 oh, and the apostles came unto him, and said teacher, a man was preaching and we prevented him. Jesus said, prevent him not. he that is not against us is for us…i think judgement will be up to the true judge.

Let me ask you this:
Or are all religions equally valid (even though they may be incorrect) in the eyes of God so long as those practicing these religions are doing so with sincerity? Is the concept of identifying a religion as “false” divisive and outdated?

ps. The “sinner’s prayer” doesn’t save anyone. That is one of the biggest tragedies in modern christian evangelism. People think that ONE prayer saves them have been sold a bill of goods. That is an invention of modern evangelicalism. True conversion is marked by a broken heart over one’s sin, true repentance and a strong desire to obey Christ and do the will of the Father.

at the judgment we will be judged individually, not by what name was above our place of worship. i dont know what happens at the moment of death. but i do believe that if our evangelization efforts fail, there is one who can appear to the person up to their last breath, and give them a choice. do i believe that identifying a religion is false, divisive or outdated? no i do not. i believe that Mormonism is false, yet there will be those known as Mormons in this life, who will be in heaven. i believe that protestantism is false. but that there will be those that were known as protestants in heaven. i believe that Islam is false, but i believe their will be those known as Muslims will be in heaven. all systems that fall outside of Catholicism and not founded upon the rock that Christ set up, are false. there is only one Church. but… God can reveal himself however and to who ever he pleases. hope that isnt to divisive or outdated for you. peace 🙂

All people in all cultures in all times have always felt a compulsion to seek God. Who do you suppose put that compulsion in the heart of men? Did you every consider why this compulsion is found in all people and in all cultures? Also you may have noticed that most people have a sense of what is right and wrong. Again a worldwide phenomena. You think maybe God had something to do with that?

Everyone born whether they know it or not is on a journey, the Bible refers to it as a Path and how that journey ends is up to them, and it all starts with the aforementioned built in characteristics given to all people by our Creator. Everyday choices are made for doing what is right or ignoring what is right and choosing the wrong. The same type of choices are made daily in regards to seeking out God. If anyone responds in choosing in their heart what is right they will move closer and closer to finding the reality of God. If this continues they will come to the point where truth becomes paramount and they no longer care about the status quo but seek out truth at any cost to themselves and they will know it when they find it because God is the author and finisher of their faith. This is a process that more often than not can take years to come to fruition, it is rare but possible to happen quickly due to the mercy of God due to a particular situation and it doesn’t matter in what culture you find yourself or in any place in time that you may have lived. God has said that “He who perseveres to the end will be saved”. This life is not a random situation where by your luck you find the truth, everyone is directly responsible to God and salvation is not cheap! He has said MY sheep will hear My Voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one will snatch them our of my hand. St. John 10:27-28. The Truth is always out their and God will fail no one, but the choices we make due to our free will will either bring us to Jesus, or send us to Hell. When we stand before God at our final judgment we will have no excuse for where we are going because He had put all the information in our hearts at our birth to find our way home to Him. Seek the Lord while He may be found !!
