Could our muslim posters address the St. Cloud University flap over the threat to the service dog please? Also - is cannibalism allowed if the person is starving? This question is in reference to the pig eating ban. Thanks.

I am still confised why angels are scared of dogs. They weren’t in the Bible. Why would angels be scared of anything?
In the book of Tobit there is a dog that follows the angel and young man around, so the Catholic bible certainly doesn’t have angels fearing dogs.

I am hoping that some Muslim will give us all a good reason why an angel would be afraid of dogs. Maybe there is a different way of interpreting this passage?

I’m not aware of anything hadith or anything which says that angels are scared of dogs… it just says that angels don’t enter a room with pictures or dogs in it. Doesn’t say why… better not to assume.

**Very good reply from Sis Amy. We can say that angels do not like to enter a house where there is a dog. That is not for any fear. Everything and everyone is mighty afraid of the angels. It is all written in the bible OT and NT.

In one example, in bible, a donkey saw the angel and was very afraid that it collapsed on the ground. There are other examples clearly showing that persons seeing the angel were full of fear.

Angels do not like to enter a place / house where there is a dog. Similarly, humans having the nature of angels do not also like to enter a place where there is a dog in the house.

That is why there is a notice on door in Germany “Achtung. Hund”. In England “Beware of Dog”. I feel that this thread has done its usefulness. It must have made good understanding now.**

Ok. If it doesn’t say, then so be it. I wonder why angels in the Bible weren’t afraid of them. Or holy people through the years?

My husband (who is a Pakistani Muslim) says Muslims are NOT supposed to own a dog unless the dog is for some kind of work in or** out side **of the house…

Hadith - Bukhari 3:515, Narrated Abu Huraira

I heard Allah’s Apostle saying; “Angels (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature (a human being or an animal).”

Hadith - Muslim, Narrated 'Aisha

Gabriel made a promise with Allah’s Messenger to come at a definite hour; that hour came but he did not visit him. And there was in his hand (in the hand of Allah’s Apostle) a staff. He threw it from his hand and said: Never has Allah or His messengers (angels) ever broken their promise. Then he cast a glance (and by chance) found a puppy under his cot and said: Aisha, when did this dog enter here ? She said: By Allah, I don’t know. He then commanded and it was turned out. Then Gabriel came and Allah’s Messenger said to him: You promised me and I waited for you, but you did not come, whereupon he said: It was the dog in your house which prevented me (to come), for we (angels) do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.

Hadith - Bukhari 3:515, Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle.” Abu Huraira (in another narration) said from the Prophet, “unless it is used for guarding sheep or farms, or for hunting.” Narrated Abu Hazim from Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “A dog for guarding cattle or for hunting.”

Here’s I have a good answers similar to your question, may it beneficial

Q.) I am a 15 year old Muslim American and my mother is buying a dog. I heard that if I touch the dog, I cannot pray. Is this true? What should I do?

A.) All creatures are the creation of Allah Taãla and do deserve the recognition of being a creation of the Almighty. As much as Muslims detest even the sight of pigs - it is the creation of Allah Taãla - and because Allah has placed life into it, we cannot inflict pain nor torture the pig.

Similarly Allah Taãla created the dog from among His creation. This does not mean that we should love the dog. It is perhaps the indoctrination of the Western culture that ‘The dog is Man’s best Friend’. The theory that ‘dogs are very dependent on Human affection’ is a myth - again culture and custom has helped to develop this unnatural behavior.

Allah Taãla the Creator of this Universe - having created the dog would surely have known that the dog requires Human affection and love to exist in this world. Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) would have advised us to keep dogs as pets. On the contrary, we are instructed not to keep dogs as pets and ‘love’ them as exemplified by the non-Muslims. Remember our life is structured and bound by the Shariah i.e. The Noble Qurãn and the beautiful example of Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam). Consider these Ahaadith:

Sayyidna Abu Talha (Radhiyallaahu Ánhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, "Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or an animate picture. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith no. 2986)

Sayyidna Ibn Abbas (Radhiyallaahu Ánhuma) reports from Sayyidna Maimoona (Radhiyallaahu Ánha) that once Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) became sad; and said that Jibra’eel (Álayhis Salaam) promised to meet him at night but did not turn up. “By Allah what has kept him back,” said the Prophet (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam). Then he realised a puppy was under his bed. He ordered that the puppy be removed and the area be sprinkled with water. In the afternoon when Jibra’eel (Álayhi Salaam) came, Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) enquired as to the delay. Jibra’eel (Álayhi

Salaam) said that we, the group of Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or pictures. (Sahih Muslim Hadith no.3928)

In the light of these Ahaadith and other narrations it is not permissible to keep dogs as pets. The household is deprived of the Mercy of Allah Taãla.

However, Jurists have stated that it is permissible to keep a dog for security purposes, farming and hunting.

The saliva of a dog is Najis (impure). If it touches the clothes or body, that portion also becomes impure and must be washed. And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.

in my childhood i even cried for a dog.i really wanted it for me.but my parents didn’t allow cuz they told me that the dog is unholy and the angel of mercy wont enter in my room if there is any dogs in my room.now sister amy if you really love your pet dogs then i think i was unfortunate.cuz i really wanted a dog.but in my childhood i was to much scared about jahannam!(hell) so i didn’t have the courage to disobey the islamic law!

dear sister amy are those islamic laws different for you and me?

Do angels enter approach a house with a hunting dog? what about other animals? are angels ok with some ants, fish, cats, mosquitos, maybe a mouse hiding somewhere?

superstitions.

Okay, I wondered upon this accidentally.

This man says that Muslims can not own dogs unless they are working dogs. And then the dog’s saliva can not touch the human, so I guess no licking. I was just curious if this is a mainstream Muslim believe or not.

Please let’s don’t make this a Muslim bashing thread. I am simply curious how common among Muslims this man’s views on dogs are.🙂

In conclusion: Don’t contemplate taking a dog home as a pet. If, however, you do need to keep a dog for any of the reasons given above, then you may do so. But take every precaution not to have contact with its saliva, and also arrange for a separate living space.”

Can Muslims own pets at all? Or do all animals have to be working animals?
One more reason I am glad to be Catholic…🙂

lol.ya brother inJESUS you are correct.maybe islamic angels like many animals except dog.ever mosquito or mouse.lol

allow me to add some other reason:

When defecating in the desert do not face Qibla nor turn your backside towards Qibla; use three sods and your right hand to cleanse your private parts…(Sunaan Tirmidhi, 128)

Use odd number of stones (minimum three) to clean your private parts…(Sahih Bukhari, 1. 4.162)

When visiting a toilet carry three stones with you…(Sunaan Abu Dawud, 1.1.0040)

If you defecate in a desert use three stones, no need to use water…(Sunaan Nasai, 1.44)

Do not urinate standing; Umar did that but Muhammad reprobated him…(Sunaan Tirmidhi, 133)

During night you may urinate in a vessel…(Sunaan Nasai, 1.32)

Do not return salutation when you are urinating…(Sunaan Nasai, 1.37)

Hi
Quran does not prohibit it; but Muslims usually don’t like to keep them.
Thanks
Muslims (Sunees & Sheaa) consider Hadiths to be a main part of Islamic faith, without it, we wouldn’t know how to pray, how to fast, or how to perform Hajj, so you can’t rely on Quran alone to be a Muslim, and Muslims are following Muhammed’ Hadiths regarding dogs:

** - Dogs nullify prayer.
** Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 9, Number 493:
*Narrated 'Aisha:
The things which annual prayer were mentioned before me (and those were): a dog, a donkey and a woman. I said, “You have compared us (women) to donkeys and dogs. By Allah! I saw the Prophet praying while I used to lie in (my) bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I disliked to sit and trouble the Prophet. So, I would slip away by the side of his feet.” *

** - Gabriel does not enter a house which has a dog.**
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 54, Number 450:
  • Narrated Salim’s father:
Once Gabriel promised the Prophet (that he would visit him, but Gabriel did not come) and later on he said, “We, angels, do not enter a house which contains a picture or a dog.” *
** - Angels do not enter a house which has a dog.**
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 54, Number 448:
  • Narrated Abu Talha:
I heard Allah’s Apostle saying; “Angels (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature (a human being or an animal).” *
** - Two Qirat (aka Carat) daily deduction for keeping the dog.**
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 67, Number 389:
  • Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet said, “Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds.” *
- Washing the utensil 7 times.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 4, Number 173:
  • Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “If a dog drinks from the utensil of anyone of you it is essential to wash it seven times.” *
- Orders by Muhammed to kill dogs.
Sahih Bukhari,Sahih Muslim Book 010, Number 3809:
  • Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) giving command for killing dogs.*
Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3810:
  • Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) ordered to kill dogs, and he sent (men) to the corners of Medina that they should be killed.*
Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3811:
  • Abdullah (b. Umar) (Allah be pleased with them) reported: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs and we would send (men) in Medina and its corners and we did not spare any dog that we did not kill, so much so that we killed the dog that accompanied the wet she-camel belonging to the people of the desert.*
Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3812:
  • Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be, upon him) ordered the killing of dogs except the dog tamed for hunting, or watching of the herd of sheep or other domestic animals. It was said to Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) that Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) talks of (exception) about the dog for watching the field, whereupon he said: Since Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) possessed land.

I converted to Islam for about 6 years; then started looking back at it again (but recently squashed that).
Then i felt a pull back to church; Islam was not all it seem.
(but what religion is) I feel more at “home” in the church.

YES Islam seems like a good idea and it seems very simple and you are like “gee why didn’t I Of think of that”, but its more complicated than that.
It contradicts EVERYTHING Christ lived and stood for.
I am not saying the church is perfect either; but Islam is FAR from the church. You need to do LOTS of reading about this!
My husband (who is a Pakistani Muslim)
Hi “ZuzuBailey”,

Wow, you have a great story to be told here, could you please share it with us (if possible), maybe your story will help others understand what Islam really is.

However, I have these questions for you:
  • During your 6 years in Islam, did you discover that the reasons that were told to you before Islam were invalid?
  • What sort of complications you have faced during your time in Islam?
  • Since you have said “Islam contradicts everything Christ lived and stood for”, then why did you believe in Islam in the first place, who and how they brainwashed you?
  • Since your husband is still a Muslim, how do you deal with your children, which religion you tell them is the true one?
Praise the Lord for showing you the true path.
:blessyou:

Wow i am so blessed, Allah / God has placed me in the driest state in my continent i still have water.

I cant begin to imagine what it might have been like for these people, I think i should be grateful for the people that went before me and endured hardship that my life be so much better.
