Can Muslims who are polygamists in one country still practise polygamy when they immigrate?

I’ve heard that polygamy can be practised by Muslims so long as they can handle having another wife. However if that person emigrates to a country where polygamy is’nt allowed (ex.Canada) would they be an exception to a “no polygamy” rule while no longer being able to take another wife or would they have to “give up” a few of their wives?.Thank you very much s o for your time.

From what I understand, polygamous marriages, even approved abroad, will simply never be recognized no matter what the circumstance. Usually, what will happen is that the first wife will be legally considered the man’s wife.

I think the rule in the UK is that if the polygamous marriage is contracted abroad, the marriage is legally recognised.

Not recognized in the U.S. Bigamy is a ground of inadmissibility for immigrant visa purposes.
