I am a single mother and was raised in the Catholic church. I left when I was 12 or 13. I received Conformation I suppose under protest. Anyway. I am on the fence about returning. There are some major points I personally disagree with. Then again I’m not attending any church currently, and IF I ever went back it would be the Catholic Church.

That being said. Can I raise my son Catholic? Getting him baptized, Confession, and Communion? I don’t mind taking him to Mass on Sundays. I know I cannot (nor would I want to at this point) go for communion. He is 7 and is asking lots of questions about God. I did take him to a Mass once. He didn’t hate it or become too bored which is a good thing. Where should I go from here?

Yes, you may have your son baptized and receive 1st communion and confirmation even though you have no desire to do so. The Church only requires that there be a hope the child is raised Catholic in order to be baptized, the Church does not require the parents themselves to be perfect Catholics.

God bless.
