Can my wife annul our marriage?

I am not Catholic and my wife is. We got married in the Church and she left me on Sunday. She is going to file for separation. We were married for two years. Can she get our marriage annulled? I have been reading up on it and can’t find much. I have begged her to come back and go to counseling with me becase we have never done that but she refuses.

Once a civil divorce has been granted, your wife may petition a Church marriage tribunal for an annulment, but you will be notified of the proceedings and given the opportunity to defend to the tribunal the validity of your marriage. Ordinarily, knowledge of the proceedings and the opportunity to participate in the process is to be given to both parties or the annulment will not be valid. If and when you receive notice from a marriage tribunal of a petition by your wife for annulment, call the diocese in which the annulment case is being heard and ask for the name of a local canon lawyer who can help you defend the validity of your marriage. If need be, you can also contact the St. Joseph Foundation for assistance in dealing with matters of canon law.
