Hi,
I was raised in a protestant church but my husband is Catholic and I now attend his church with him. We also have a new son together and he has been Christened in the Catholic church and I am considering converting. However, my faith is not at all as strong as it once was. I lost my father five years ago and since that time, instead of turning to God for strength and comfort, I have become angry and disappointed. I miss being close to God and I recognize the emptiness and darkness that I have had ever since my doubts began but I’ve not yet been able to surmount that darkness and come back to Him.
I have never publicly denied Him but I have to myself, more than once. I still attend church regularly and pray every night but nearly always with doubts in my heart. While searching the web for more info on the church, I found this website and some info about mortal sin vs. venial sin and people have mentioned that receiving Communion while not truly prepared in heart is a mortal sin. I must admit I don’t fully understand all of this but it does concern me. Have I done something wrong receiving Communion even though my faith is not what it should be? Is having doubts about God a mortal sin? Should I and can I confess these to a priest even if I’m not yet Catholic?
Thank you in advance for your time.
