Can non-Catholics explain what the Rosary focuses on?

I don’t remember who said this, but it makes so much sense to me. The Rosary is us looking into our Saviour’s life through the eyes of the one who loved Him more, and knew Him better than anyone on this earth ever could, His Mother, my Mother in Heaven.
We should always pray for our brothers and sisters who are missing out on so much. Arguing does not get us anywhere.
Remember, God will sort it out in the end.

God also says that my people will perish for the lack of knowledge.

Sorry it doesn,t help. You missed what Jesus said. It went right over your head. Again why would I want to pray to a saint when Jesus clearly says to ask in His name and it shall be granted. Do we trust and have faith in what Jesus is saying?😦
Are you seriously saying you never ask other people (including family and friends, who are also saints, remember) to pray for you because you can just go to Jesus?

In spite of clear teaching from St Paul and St James in their epistles that we are all to pray for and with each other?

The word ‘pray’ simply means ‘to ask’. We pray TO others (our earthly or heavenly friends) to ask for their intercession on our behalf.

Of course others have prayed for me but they always pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ. No one can come to the Father but through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only mediator between us and the Father.

What’s the difference, then, between saying to my mother ‘Mom, pray for me for that I do ok in my exams’ …

and saying to Jesus’ mother, who is also my spiritual mother, who I know was a holy woman and had requests of hers answered, and is now in heaven in glory and with Jesus again, ‘Mother Mary, pray for me to your son Jesus, since he loves you so dearly that he performed a miracle for you at Cana, that I do ok in my exams’ …

 how are the two things at all different?

Hail Mary…
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death
.

I don’t tell others how to pray for me, I don’t tell Mary how to pray for me. I just request that she does, now and at the hour of my death.

“Be mindful of us, O Blessed Virgin! Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee! Thee the angelical and terrestrial hierarchies proclaim blessed Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. O mistress, lady, intercede for us! Queen, and Mother of God, pray for us!”
Athanasius of Alexandria (also spelled “Athanasios”) (c.293 – May 2, 373

There are prayers of worship and there are prayers of desire. I would expect some amount of repitition in either but more so in the prayers of worship.

In a prayer of desire, you might need an answer or comfort or healing or, well lots of things. I think the rosary is a good way to worship but when you’re really in need of something specfic, don’t you depart from the prepared text and ask for your loved one to recover (or whatever)? Or should you just keep on praying the rosary knowing that He knows what you have need of, before you ask?

Why not just add it to the Rosary Intentions at the beginning? We also do Rosary intentions at the start of every decade, in our CWL.

Guess what? The saints ALSO pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ!

It is true the saints do pray in the name of Jesus Christ because they know it,s the only way to reach God.👍 P.S Any time you see the word saints in Sacred Scripture it refers to earthly saints.

I’m aware that the Bible refers to us on earth as saints. But surely you’re not suggesting that the people in heaven are sinners? 😛

I’m pointing out that the Blessed Virgin and the Saints in Heaven ALSO pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ.

Exodus 32:11 “Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, your servants, to whom by yourself you swore and mad this promise”. From it we note that Moses pleads with God on the basis of the Promise he made to his earthly friends. Moses (indirectly) used their assistance to help him just as we do when we ask the saints to pray for us.

Intercession of the dead saints is further confirmed by the scriptures when we read that God himself says to Solom 1 Kings 11 “for your Fathers sake, However, I will not do this (take away his kingdom)during your life time but will tear it out of your Son’s hands. . . . for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen, I will leave your son one tribe”.

"Then, as before, I lay prostrate before the Lord for forty days and forty nights without eating and drinking, because of all the sin you had committed in the sight of the Lord…Yet once again the Lord listened to me. With Aaron too, the Lord was deeply angry, and would have killed him had I not prayed for him also at that time. Deutronomy 9:18-20

“…Grant our petition; pray for us to the Lord, your GOD, for all this remnant…Let the Lord your GOD, show us what way we should take and what we should do.” “Very well,” The prophet Jeremiah answered them: “I will pray to the Lord, your GOD, as you desire…” Jeremiah 42:2-4

“With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverence and supplication for all the Saints: And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence…” Ephesians 6:18-19

Hi,
WOW you focus on that every time you say the rosary!! Im impressed. I have a hard enough time focusing on one thing at a time. I must have adult ADD
Well not ALL of those at the same time. We take each set of “Mysteries” on one day and meditate on the life of Jesus as it correspoonds to the Mysteries. Each set has 5 mysteries.

And btw, I’m no “expert” on keeping my focus every minute that I’m praying the Rosary. 😦 Sometimes it is difficult to go through the full Rosary without some kind of interruption in my mind. That is one of the reasons why I like praying the Rosary while looking at the Mystery images of Jesus. There are several different types out there.

theworkofgod.org/Devotns/Rosary/s2.jpg This is one of the Sorrowful Mysteries… in particular “Scourging at the Pillar.”

“Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple.”

This is actually one of my favorite websites for praying the Rosary. Here are the Luminous Mysteries from that website. ALLFORHIM, I hope you like it… somehow I think you will. 👍

If you watch “The Passion of the Christ” you could actually be praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. It starts right away with the “Agony in the Garden” mystery. I always cry. 😦

It is good to have meditations on our own life while meditating on the life of Jesus. Here is a list of meditations for us as we pray the Glorious Mysteries, starting with the Resurrection.

I love Father Corapi’s way of telling his Protestant friends…
“Don’t you believe in praying the Gospels?” paraphrasing - can’t remember his exact words. But he says that when we pray the Rosary, we are praying the Gospels. 👍 I love when he also says, “…don’t leave home without it!” He says that as he holds up his Rosary.

btw… Father Corapi is on right now on EWTN! I always love his talks. click and watch. 😉

edit… And this is the one where he says, “Don’t leave home without it.” He just said it so you missed it. He calls the Rosary our “weapon.”

Do you have sacred scripture that says saints in heaven are praying for us? I,ve read where they present our prayers to the Lord but have not read about them doing the praying. .

What do you imagine we will be doing when we get to Heaven, if not praying?

So they’re only allowed to pass on the prayers without knowing their contents, like a mail delivery service or something? Why would God need a bunch of mere mailmen and receptionists (no offence to those two noble occupations)?

Even Gabriel didn’t simply and literally pass on God’s message to Mary, he added his own greetings and encouragements to her, as do most of the other angelic messengers in Scripture.

The heavenly souls do NOT just pass on our prayers unchanged. They add their own powerful prayers to them. Why wouldn’t they when James tells us that the prayers of the righteous avail much? Who is more righteous than someone in glory in heaven?
