Can non-Catholics get into heaven?

My husband and I are both Catholic but some of our family members have been attending a non-denominational Christian church for several years now. They love Jesus, know scripture very well, are actively involved in charity work and bible study…but my husband believes they will not get into heaven because they are not part of the one true Catholic Church. I have a hard time believing this because of their love for Jesus and fellow man. What is the churches view?
