My understanding is that if you die in a state of mortal sin you go to hell, because by committing that sin you purposely rejected God and His love. But the sacrament of confession forgives all mortal sin. My question is: what happens to non-Catholic Christians who believe in Jesus, but don’t go to confession because they think they don’t need to go? Do they go to hell because they never confessed their mortal sin or are they not culpable?
