Can non-Catholics receive a blessing at Communion?

My Wife and I are planning on RCIA this fall and confirmation next spring. I have been told we could approach Holy Communion and receive a Blessing. But, in reading here. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=543513 in a letter from the Congregation for Divine Worship it appears I cannot, being a non-Catholic. I have done this twice and my Wife once. Have we committed an infraction or does our intention to become Catholics make it ok. If it is an infraction, what can we do about it since we can’t yet do confession etc. ?
