Can one be happy in Heaven if loved ones are in hell? Can one be happy in Heaven knowing that there is severe pain and suffering in hell? Will God allow repentance for the people in hell?

Yes of course. People have to make their own choices, we can’t force people to go to heaven. However, this is why it is our duty as Catholics to help our loved ones to see the truth, and help them to get to heaven.

Yes, they will see all their loved ones in hell as God sees them. God loves them even more than we do. If God can tolerate the existence of hell, he will give those in heaven the ability to tolerate it as well.

Absolutely. In fact, one will take a form of joy from seeing folks in hell. Not a twisted joy like, “Nyah, nyah, I made it and you didn’t!” Not that, no. More like being joyful in seeing the infinite justice of God.

Divine Mercy is greater than Divine Justice but they both give glory to God. It is absolutely our own fault that we end up separated from God either in hell or in purgatory. As Sister Lucia reported about the second apparition of the angel at Fatima: “The angel’s words were impressed upon our souls like a light that made us understand who God is, how much He loves us and wishes to be loved, the value of sacrifice and how it pleases God, and how He converts sinners because of it.”
This message seems to indicate the seers of Fatima were given a grace that the rest of us must work at, the grace of understanding. This message shows us the highest level of truth related to this grace and that this is what we, if we are to be saints, are to aspire to. This is union with God through the Holy Spirit and will result in us receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This union with God and our sacrifice results in salvation for us and for others through God’s Mercy.
Ask God for the grace to pray, fast, and give alms, to turn off the television and meditate on His law, and to endure all that He sends us which is for our eternal beatitude. This will lead to the grace others will need to accept His Mercy.

Well why couldn’t I say:just because you dont want to believe anyone goes there does not mean that people dont go there
just because you want to believe that people do go to hell, doesn’t mean that they actually do.
I find that people throw around the idea of hell so lightly, without even beginning to appreciate how horrible it actually is. Eternal torture, literally eternal torture, is so bad that nothing on earth compares to the enormity of the pains of the damned. I find it shocking how people easily declare a positive population in hell. I just can’t make myself believe it. (I actually do believe it, or I wouldn’t be so obsessed about it, but I’m working very hard to find hope that this belief is false)

Sorry to be a such a “downer” here, but how many people do you actually think die in a state of grace as defined by the church? Certainly not the vast majority of Catholics for that matter either.I find it shocking how people easily declare a positive population in hell.
I too wish that Jesus lied when he said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.””
But I also hold the belief that he wasn’t a liar. The best thing you can do, if you honestly care about people and their eternal state, is be straight up with them. Don’t omit the word “hell” in your discussions about the faith.
Jesus spoke about hell far more than he did heaven.

Our Jewish brothers and sisters (Chabad) believe that the souls in hell will someday enjoy the glory of Heaven. In other words, all souls will eventually be saved.
