Can one repair a blessed medal?

I am posting this on behalf of a friend:

"Happy New Year everyone!

I have a miraculous medal that became tarnished.

Is it okay to send it to a jeweller and have it coated anew with a gold or silver coating? I have reservations since this medal is already blessed, and I think only non-blessed medals are allowed to be repaired.

Dear James,

Chalices are often refinished and do not have to be blessed again. So long as the medal is just being refinished it remains what is was when it was blessed and so the blessing remains.
