Can other items, such as a Crucifix be placed above a tabernacle?

Somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind there lies a regulation that there should not be anything directly above (i.e standing on) a tabernacle. My church recently placed a crucifix on its tabernacle. Is this proper?

I have never heard of such a rule. (This does not mean that one doesn’t exist or didn’t in the past.)

The local ICRSS parish has a crucifix on their tabernacle. I’m sure it’s free-standing because they replace it with a monstrance for Adoration. I trust that the canons know what they are doing.

I’ve seen just a few churches where the crucifix was actually standing on the tabernacle. Most of the time I’ve seen the crucifix nailed to the wall above the tabernacle. That’s not what I thought the OP was referring to, though. 🤔

I’ve seen a lot of tabernacles built into the wall with a Crucifix right above it on a stand. Is this what the OP means?

If not, my home parish has a Tabernacle with a dome that can be placed over it (to look more ornate) and the top of this dome has a cross

I thought he meant “placed directly onto the tabernacle,” not nailed to the wall above it nor fixed to the top of it. But I’m just guessing. We’ll have to wait for the OP to clarify.

There’s a chapel near here with a marble altar with a flat top to the tabernacle to allow for the monstrance to be placed on top of it. The altar dates to the 1930s. There’s no regulation like that that I’m aware of.

I am the OP. I meant can a crucifix be placed directly on top of a bare tabernacle, not nailed or permanently fixed on the wall above it.

Seems like a great place for the priest to focus during parts of the mass.

When I get to the communion rail I focus my attention on whatever object of devotion is before me, often the cross above the tabernacle.
