Can our infinite God create and infinite number of things?

Well, infinite is not really a number, but rather a quality. So, as long as God can ‘imagine’ (for lack of a better term) a being, He has the ability to create it, so I guess ‘yes’ but I wouldn’t think of it as an ‘infinite number’. If there are 1,234,567,890 different species, and God wanted to make it 1,234,567,891, He could, and could continue adding more creation without limitation.

Yes he can, but Revelation proves He has not.

Which particular verse is that stated?

When I look back at the history we know about on this earth, animals that were here before the dinosaurs, then the dinosaurs themselves, then we have a completely different type of animals on the planet during the ice age era. Not just animals either, but the vast variety of plant life as well, also consider all the planets and solar systems out there and what must exist out there. From all this, it is absolutely CLEAR to me our God is a God who loves to create, I find it hard to believe he would just up and stop all creation after mankind.

There are an infinite number of real numbers between any two real numbers. - a math analogy that just came to mind that likely has nothing to do with the question at hand.

No but it shows just how awesome is God! I have been considering God and quantum physics. I am astounded that physicits say now say that at the heart of things matter is made up of stuff that doesn’t exist in space time at all. And that stuff is made of nothing at all. It is supported by something else entirely! I bet I know what that Something is! In fact the more I learn the more mind blown I become and I am filled with unspeakable joy and it makes me want to dance for Him all the more. 🙂

Gen 1: 1 " In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. " God is creating new souls every day however, but nothing else. For the rest, His activity is limited to what Philosophers and Theologians call Divine Conservation or Government.

God transcends creation and is present to it

300 God is infinitely greater than all his works: "You have set your glory above the heavens."156 Indeed, God’s “greatness is unsearchable”.157 But because he is the free and sovereign Creator, the first cause of all that exists, God is present to his creatures’ inmost being: "In him we live and move and have our being."158 In the words of St. Augustine, God is “higher than my highest and more inward than my innermost self”.159

God upholds and sustains creation

301 With creation, God does not abandon his creatures to themselves. He not only gives them being and existence, but also, and at every moment, upholds and sustains them in being, enables them to act and brings them to their final end. Recognizing this utter dependence with respect to the Creator is a source of wisdom and freedom, of joy and confidence:

For you love all things that exist, and detest none of the things that you have made; for you would not have made anything if you had hated it. How would anything have endured, if you had not willed it? Or how would anything not called forth by you have been preserved? You spare all things, for they are yours, O Lord, you who love the living.160

Since God created the world according to a plan, he gave His creatures all they needed to carry out His plan. This leaves plenty of room for some kind of evolution, but evolution does not require any new creations. God’s plan will unfold in each being according to the plan God creates in each nature.

I suppose one could believe that God continues to create beings in nature, but I don’t see why it would be necessary. I see no reason to think this could be so. And the Church is silent on that point as far as I know.

In response to the question, I would say that the answer is “no.” According to Saint Thomas Aquinas (one of the greatest minds who ever lived,) nothing that implies a contradiction falls under the sovereignty of God. So, we can create a simple syllogism with this.

P1. Things which imply a contradiction can’t be done by God.
P2. The creation of an actually infinite number of things implies a contradiction.
C. Therefore, the creation of an actually infinite number of things can’t be done by God.

no, an actual infinity of things (not to be confused with an abstract infinity) is logically impossible.

Visit William lane Craig website, he’s very apt at explaining what is wrong with infinity.

Thomas Aquinas thinks it possible. In fact his Five Ways were based on the assumption that He did. But he held on faith that He created the universe out of nothing in time.

Aquinas said that it was logically possible to have an infinite regress of causes and effects. But he does not believe that a simultaneous or actual infinity is possible.

Hi, I’m a newbe here. I have had a thought on this before:
  1. God could create a universe that would last for eternity.
  2. Every day, God could create a stone and put it in this universe.
  3. This could go on for an unlimited amount of time and God has the power to create a stone everyday and hence create an unlimited number of stones. If it is unlimited it is potentially infinite.
  4. But God would not be constrained by time and hence could make them all at once.
The only flaw in this argument I can see is that maybe God cannot create a universe that would last for eternity and be outside of time in that universe. Presumably that would imply our own universe must only exist within a finite time frame. (My humble opinion.)
