I have severe chronic depression and am on several medications. I regularly overeat as a way of comforting myself when I am sad. I am pretty overweight and still gaining weight. Could this overeating be a mortal sin?

Gluttony is excessive indulgence in food and drink. However it is only glutton, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, when the overindulgence is the main intention. In other words, someone has to essentially intend the overindulgence of food and drink.

In the case you describe, overeating is a symptom of another issue. It is not freely chosen and thus is not a sin. You need to focus yourself on the issues that are leading you to overeat and get whatever help you need to address them.

God bless.
