Can people attain flight through Christ?

I was thinking about Lucid Dreaming and Padre Pio over some coffee, and came up with this question. It seems that the privilege is reserved exclusively for (some) saints, however I’m interested on what the Church says. If there’s no official statements, what are your thoughts on the matter?

*Note that I am not talking about natural (i.e. plane/glider etc. induced) flight.

In regards to SL, I did a cusory search, and found no official Church statementa in regards to it

I think the ‘proper’ or what-have-you term is ‘saintly levitation’.

(Edit: I just read the link you posted… I think that’s more bilocation to the point of literal flight, as opposed to levitation.)

And its not just Pio… Joseph Cupertino and Gemma Galgani levitated as well. (edit: Again, after reading the article, it’s kind of two different things)

I thought bilocation simply allowed them to be in multiple locations (hence the name). I didn’t think they could bilocate into the air (unless they can control their spirits like AP). Interesting…

The strict, technical answer is yes. After all, through Christ all things are possible.

However, that is a gift reserved for very, very holy people, and is meant to instill faith in those who encounter them.

@TheNeutral I think the key word in ProdglArchitect’s answer is “gift.” We should strive to be holy without any expectation of receiving something like this, because it’s not a prize we can earn. It’s a gift that God chooses to give if it suits His Will.

If you strive for holiness specifically with the desire to be able to levitate, I’d be willing to bet almost anything that you wouldn’t be granted that specific gift.

Also, bear in mind that that gift is EXTREMELY rare. In the history of the Church, with its millions of faithful and tens of thousands of holy men, only three are reported to have had this gift.

Seek holiness for the sake of being holy, not because you hope to gain something other than God for your efforts.
