I am a convert. A neighbor is Lutheran, her husband was raised in a “strict Catholic” home. Now they do not practice any faith.

She claims that she was taught in a religion class at a Catholic university that, “basically people of all other faiths are evil and going to hell.” She says she had to study Catholicism for 6 months and found it hard to take as a minority Lutheran.

How do I respond? Our sons (6) play together and this situation arose when my son asked her son if he believed in God. Her son said, “no” and that he believes in “evil”. She tells me they just haven’t talked about it with him but they believe in God and are respectful of all faiths since they have Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc. friends.

They are good people, but don’t practice any faith. I’m worried about my son’s exposure to this but also see it as an opportunity to evangelize. I just don’t know what to say.

Thank you,
Michelle
